Unless it's a recovery day, it's "game on"
Even on recovery days, it's sooo tempting, especially when you get the "look" from someone that just passed. I've gotten much better about sticking to my agenda, as this year I've really needed the easy days to stay easy. Now what's really nice, is when I stay in the recovery zone and don't get passed
Most of my riding is in group rides, where were all out there to break each others legs, so it's pretty mutual. I do love the occasional spontaneous SART drag races.

I don't care much about racing others, but I am competitive(duh), but I really only compete in a couple of ways...
1) Against myself - trying to ride further and faster...
2) Against whoever I see in the distance that I want to catch
3) Against m.e. so I can p!ss her off...
I like trying to catch whoever's in front of me, but dropping them isn't a concern. I just use them as incentive to move faster until I catch up. Doesn't matter if they're riding slow or fast.
I believe everyone's competitive, but in their own ways and against their own measurement.

This is the problem with cyclists now days - we don't know how to go an have fun... at least that is the attitude of many people I have meet on rides. The reality is that if you want to be competitive go ride in a competitive ride or race...
I still have people in the area who know that I used to race, and they see my trolling along at about 15 mph and they "have to race"...
Just as I say - ordinarly cyclist with ordinary goals - to be the best that I can be for myself - and no others!
