Whatever happened to.......
The idea of an evening ride up GMR to the shack? Still time enough for a warm ride, but the weather cools down up there earlier than you might think. There are only 4 or 5 more weeks before daylight savings time changes everything temperature wise. For those of you that have never done it, it is something to remember. Beanz, why aren't you up on this? Give up one of your Saturday SART rides for a Saturday evening up GMR. I know it would require lights and all, but I would guess there are those out there that have more than one system, and might be willing to lend illumination to those without. Just a thought.

Ok ... darn it.... I would like to do as well.. Tho everyone would be waiting on me.
Have light on my FX I could switch over but not sure how lit up things get with it as not much riding done at night but have it for visibility on my commute.

Yea, we would have to stay together, just the thought of becoming solo on a dark night, every sound would spook me. And this is from a guy that grew up in the boonies of Washington state.

Check. I hit 35 with just one of my lights last night. And I was wearing light sunglasses too (55%).
Speaking of which, I really need to find some photochromatic lenses for my specs but oakley's prices are ludicrous.

2yrs ago this was ahead of its time, I built it for only $80 + battery, optics are tuned for longer throw w/ the XPG leds. Was my 2nd light system I needed for a 12hr mtb solo race I did.

now you can get the niterider 750 for about $200, but it will be more floody. Get the best light you can afford, if your cheap like me then build it

Talked with Fred, (Mr Beanz), and him (and his better half Gina if she has the time) and I are thinking about doing this on Saturday the 27th of October. That is the earliest Saturday night that works. Anyone else that wants to come along is welcome. It will be cold, and I mean cold. I live at the base of GMR and have come down it at night many times and love the ride. Maybe others have extra lighting systems they can loan those that have none, but lights are something worth having for yourself. The sunset is at 6:06 PM, meaning we can go up earlier, when still light out and come down in the dark, or start after sunset and go both up and down in darkness.

GMR at night is a sweet ride though.

how long will this ride take?
pretty sure my lezyne super drive should last at least 3-4 hours on flashing mode.
and good to hear it's a no drop ride. never been this route before.

You can buy some spare 18650 batteries to extend the run time of your Super Drive (about 1.5hrs on high per battery.) Order now though since they ship from China.

Last year Gina, Herb & Alyce, Hillcrest and I did it with 2:01 RIDE TIME.
We do start before it gets dark so some of the climbing doesn't require lights. As you get about the 4 mile point, the eyes allow you to ride without a headlight and if you crash into something at 6 mph, maybe you shouldn't be on a bike.
We do use the lights climbing though when it gets dark, especially a rear red light for traffic approaching from behind. But it is easy to hear and see cars ( if any) coming from far.
2 hours ride time and time to break on the climb and socialize, I say 3 hours.
If we do Saturday night, we could start when it's dark, but would be finished late.

Yup! They allowed me to use some songs last year, then went back and slapped my hand saying if i get one more strike, they will delete my account. Wonder why they allowed it in the first place? Maybe they go thru and renew rules on each song, i dunno!

P. S. Not to worry about fast or slow, as this will be a no drop ride, with all accounted for by Mr Beanz at the start, the shack, and at the end of the ride. Hey Beanz, Like how I voluntered you for that? LOL

I too look forward to ride reports. I don't have the lighting to do this ride plus October is busy for me riding wise...GMR to Village 10/14, MS Ride 10/20 and 10/21 plus some other rides mixed in that are already on my calendar.
Have a fun/safe ride!
