Oh, deer!!!
Descended Mule Pass just outside of Bisbee, AZ (elev. 5,280'). After going through the tunnel you can coast for a few miles easily in the hi-40 mph range. A few curves, but nothing drastic.
Stoker Kay tapped me on the back and asked for a bit of slow down. Lightly tapped rear brake and - whoaaa! - deer ran right in front of us! Just missed T-boning it by a couple feet.
Moral of the story: listen to your stoker!
Holy cow!
Riding along Interstate 10 Frontage road had a bull jump a fence and it ran toward the freeway. There was another fence with vines and bull did not to jump it, but tried crashing through it. He bounced off that fence, looked at us wild-eyed and ran in front of us again, jumping the fence back onto its pasture.
Got a couple more animal/tandem stories for another time . . .
TG: at least with the BMWs you don't need to lube any chains!
Pedal on TWOgether!

I've done the exact same ride
The summer of 2008 I did the same ride on my single. I heard about the dragon from a local bike shop in Knoxsville. I was visiting with relatives, and they thought I was out of my mind to do the ride. I did the ride on a Tuesday morning in July, off the Dragon and parkway before noon. The traffic wasn’t bad, and I had a great ride. I’m planning to do this ride next July on my Calfee tandem. As TG mentioned, there is no shortage of commercial photographers on this road during the summer. I bought a few photos from Killerboy and ZeePhoto. I also snagged a pretty cool pick of the Dragon map.
