I havent done this ride, so I cant speak to how well run (or not) it is, hopefully with a bike shop in Rockwall again things will get better.
HOWEVER, I can speak for the route. Chip Seal, Chip Seal, Chip Seal!!! expect a steady vibration in your hands and arms, and bring your legs, because the route has serious rolling hills, you will skip the worst ones on FM 552, but the two long routes will punish you.
Even though I live in Royse City, I cant do it due to the fact I'm working
I am aiming for Cotton Patch in Greenville in September. I hear that is well run.
If you do Hot Rocks, hydryate well and enjoy

I rode it with a couple of friends last year and won't do it again. The route does have sections of chip and seal which I didn't like but with which I could deal. However, as a group we agreed that the route was not very safe towards the end. At one point you are travelling on the access road paralleling the interstate only to top a hill and come face to face with an entrance ramp to the interstate. This wouldn't have been bad except for the fact that there was no warning about the entrance ramp or police to make sure that it was safe. Shortly after that you have to cross a very busy two lane bridge across the interstate again without any police to control the traffic.
As for the rest stops the gatorade was watered down to the point that you might as well have been drinking colored water. I guess the easiest way to answer your question is that we are driving two hours to ride the melon patch ride in DeLeon rather than 45 minutes to ride in Rockwall again.

For the amount of Rockwall County Sheriffs deputies, Rockwall Police and Royse City Police, you would think there would be better protection. Then again, most of them will be running speed traps on I 30.
Oh yeah, I fibbed about missing the rollers on FM 552. You will hit all of them

This ride didn't turn out to be too bad. I could've used some pretzels at some of the later stops to replinish some salt. I didn't feel threatened along the interstate toward the end. I think they had the exit controled with cones.
