Ice Ridin'!
So the wonderful weather brought us some ice to ride on last night and this morning. My roommates went out to the hockey game and came back around 11 with their tires covered in ice. Riding to work was a blast this morning, I just wish I had gone out last night cuz there were sheets of ice on my way in and I think last night was probably all still loose.
Cross tires on a fixed gear = a ton of fun in the shatty weather and very able to handle sleet, just not slick ice of course, which I wiped out on twice on my one mile ride to work..

I rode around some last night, got ice on my bicycle, but the roads then were just wet, not icy. This morning would have been bad- slick ice between the house and the car on the sidewalk, even.

I rode around a bunch last night. Every part of my bike that is metal was frozen. Today kind of sucked. Super slick 700s over ice patches is dangerous, but that's half the fun. Falling a few times is the price you pay for ice riding, and, to me, it's been well worth it.

Wow...I went out this morning to check the mail and couldn't even walk on the sidewalk--it was just too slippery. I can't imagine trying to cycle on that!
Glad you had fun though! You need days like this every now and then as an excuse to goof off (or I do, anyway).

I rode to work this morning. Richland Hills to Roanoke. 15 miles in 2 hours.
Only hit the deck 4 times.
The first 3 did not hurt but I'm going to really feel that last one tomorrow.

Reminds me of when I rented rollerblades at the skating ring one time. I hit the deck on my backside 3 times, and hit harder each time- figured I'd better quit before I broke something! Never tried 'em again. The moral is, learn those things when you're 3, not when you're 35 or something. (That was a while back.)
And a couple of ice-walking stories...hiked up to Horsetooth Rock one time. There was an icy patch in the trail, and just as I got to it, a man coming the other way fell down on it. "Poor doofus can't even walk on ice", I thought to myself. So a half hour later, I'm coming back down the trail, get to that same spot, and BOOM down on the hiney just like he did.
And another time it was snowy and icey out there, and I went all the way to the top (at night) and all the way back down and didn't fall once. I was patting myself on the back, and when I was walking across the parking lot to the car, I slipped on some ice and fell. Fortunately, I always fell on my behind, which is well padded.

Anyone seen the Lucas Brunnelle videos of riding on the frozen river? Now THAT looked like fun.
As for ice... didn't get that cold here in Houston. Some frozen dew, but that was it.

Yes I do. Riding at night is not too bad, I take the lane and have had no issues since the lane was added.
