Coldspring

Has anyone here done the coldspring race? Did a couple of laps today with some hill repeats. I'm so bad at hills that i'm not even sure I want to race now. It was hard going up them in the lowest gear and only doing 10mph. I'm heavy but that was an eye opener.

Bikes: Trek 1420 triple, Mercier Corvus, Globe 1 700, Surly Disc Trucker, GT Avalanche, GT Grade, GT Helion, Mercier Corvus, Motobacane Boris X7 Fat Bikes,

I use the area for training. I did the Jan 2011 ride through the hills thing @ 46 miles ( https://www.active.com/cycling/coldsp...e-2011#Reviews )
and there is a bike forums page ( https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...rest+and+hills )

"lowest gear and only doing 10mph. I'm heavy but that was an eye opener. " 10 mph is good. I use a 28/ 28 on the hills for the road bike and a 28/34 gear on the hybrid gives me 4 mph. The bike and me went out at about 300lbs .

https://www.txbra.org/events/event.asp?EventID=2146 I take it this is the race you are entering?

Good luck

Bikes: Road, Touring, BMX, Cruisers...

I ride up there but don't do the racing scene. To ride hills you need to ride hills. The hills do not attack you, You attack the hills. At least that was my motto for the Bechtel Challange and Bastrop State Park today. And 10 seems good to me but then again I'm out of touch....

So I must be a half watt per kilo, per year of age( 58), per degree of temp (88) ,per elevation (wow! 250 feet) , per degree of climb, per being hit by a pickup truck . Hee Hee
Anyone else want to add a few excuses in their for me you are more than welcome.

I happened start riding in 1988 when the Boulder/ red zinger thing was going on and i rode the hill at the Mogul Bismark ( Route 128 and McCaslin Blvd) to this day that is the most grueling hill i have ever attempted they rode that hill 9 times that day

Did not make it. Ended up about 4th from last place. The ride broke down into 2 big groups and mine consisting of about 6 stragglers. Off the back after second hill of second lap. 10-15 riders went down so maybe all was best.

Thanks, next up is the Houston Grand. Anyone doing that one? I should do much better without hills. I think my son has a good chance of winning the 7 and under or at least getting a podium.
