Road Rules
Monday morning I was riding along Beltline Road between Barnes Bridge Road and Tripp Road (less than three miles). There were three lanes going south and I was in the far inside lane as I would be making a left turn in less than three miles. There was a bit of traffic and a couple of motorist got a little too close and I got an intense look from one of them and another woman even yelled something to me as she passed. There were even a few people who passed me but did'nt even bother moving over to the next lane despite it being empty. Would it have been easier for the motorist if I had been riding in the far right lane instead. Needless to say, I pinched this one off and went back to my car and came home rather than make another loop.

Ride in the righmost lane when possible. Left lane is for the fastest moving traffic. Given a 15-20mph pace, for 3 miles, you were moving slowly in the fast lane for 10-12minutes. An eternity in car-speak. That'll tick off even the most easy-going cager.
Does your left turn occur at a stoplight or stop sign? If so, consider the "right-turn-then-u-turn" left turn tactic.

Thanks for all the prompt responses. I think I'll save this route for my early-morning weekend ride and yes, stay in the far right lane. This is a beautiful ride and if anyone is familiar with the area and knows of a way to avoid Beltline Rd. I'd love to hear it.

As for avoiding Beltline there are options but it depends on whether you're looping to the east or west. I'm assuming east. You might try Jobson or East Fork for alternatives but really I think a few changes in how you ride on Beltline will change your experience with the motorists.

I don't know where you were going to or from, so can't advise on route, but I avoid Beltline. My normal route goes out Bobtown/ Lyons Road, and back the other way, Galloway is quite a bit more rideable than Beltline.

+1 Galloway is a good option if you're looping west of Beltline. I haven't tried Bobtown/Lyons Road, I'll have to look that one up on a map. Does it run East/West?

The Saturday morning ride I've done a lot starts at Don Johle's Bike World on Broadway. We take Robin Road to Duck Creek, which turns into Rowlett Road, and turn right on Bobtown. In the past, we took Bobtown to Roan, south under I-30, it becomes Lyons, then follow it on to Bobtown Road, then east onto Barnes Bridge Road and out East Fork. Current route is to turn off at Rosehill Road, east on Overglen, south on Rustic Glen, east on Guthrie, and back onto Lyons Road like the previous route. Also, you can turn off Lyons Road onto MacGregor or Diana, onto Christiana, and cut off a sectioin of busy Bobtown Road. Lots of ways to work it, look on the map and explore. Easier to follow the route than to describe it sometimes.
