I have a Brooks saddle that needs new leather. Is there a place in Austin that sells
leather pieces? It needs to be 5mm think to work well. I have tried Tandy at home and not found leather thick enough. Thanks.

I get leather back home from custom saddle makers, I may have located a source, thanks for the tip. Most saddle and tack stores sell but do not make saddles.

Probably simpler and in the long run cheaper to buy a new saddle? It's not just a flat piece of raw leather slapped on there.
I know Selle Anatomica will re-skin saddles, for 2/3 the price of a new one or so, not sure if anyone does this with Brooks.

Here's the last one I did, I realize it's not a flat piece of leather I just slapped on there.

Including the cost of leather it has never cost me more than$10.00. Besides I enjoy restoring a destroyed Brooks.

You ever thought about restoring vintage saddles? With current Brooks saddles, you can always buy a new one, but there's old vintage bikes where new saddles of matching style just aren't available.

He drives a hard bargain at Frankenbike meets. Wouldn't surprise me if a leather worker offered him a scrap piece and he talked him down on the price.

[QUOTE=Don in Austin;16303283]HA!!! You don't know Bob like I know Bob. He is my good riding buddy when he is in Austin for the winter. He has too many nice old road bikes to count and is proud to have less than $100 in most of them! He would go to the grave before buying a new Brooks saddle
Don, I have actually bought two new Brooks saddles! Otherwise you are pretty close to right.

I gotta say, nice work.
I don't know anything about leatherwork, other than my failed attempts at gun holsters.
Good luck finding the right leather. I'd love to see the finished product.

A late update, I got a piece of leather on my return to the north, large enough to do four bike saddles. Here is the results of my latest attempt.
