That trike looks like it is custom built to haul some of your clients at the care facility where you work. What a great idea. What an innovative way to get folks outside in a new and exciting way. Some guys will do anything to ride a bike on company time

It's called a Duet bike and comes from Holland. The wheelchair front separates from the rear so you can collect residents from the units and use lifts etc... During bike season I take residents out around the facility and further afield to a local lake one block away. This spring I am doing the training for more riders because we now have two bikes!

A well rounded life

I could not resist this when we happened upon this protest while spending a couple of days in Paris before starting our tour this summer. There were railroad strikes and "Yellow Vest " demonstrations going on in Paris at the time. This one was about the city of Paris cancelling the contract with Autolib, the debt ridden company that ran the electric car sharing program in the city. The folks in blue shirts are Autolib employees. This is the type of event that I like photographing. I find this type of experience more exciting photographically and personally than "typical" tourist pictures. Autolib

I was taking pictures at a peace rally in Mainz, Germany. Things were winding down and I wanted to get a picture of the blue banner as reference and do some research to find out more about the group. This gentleman saw the difficulty I was having because of the wind, and decided to help me out by holding the the corners of the banner. His sense of humor turned a simple reference photo into something a little more interesting.

I promise — I'll try to limit this type of photo. Even though it was a rest day, I really was bike touring.

Sometimes simple ideas are the most brilliant.

Live free or die, as an old motorcyclist, I always think of Live free and Become Organ Donors , whenever I see helmetless NH riders go by....(and of course, the whole american state specific laws thing that we dont really get up here, gun laws, helmet laws. you name it)
touchy topic for some, but the no motorcycle helmet thing is an odd one, again, simply from a long time motorcyclist who knows what its like to come off a bike at speed.

The one time I left my motorcycle at speed (many, many years ago) it was my knee that took it on the chin and not my head.

don't put photos up much here, but was looking at some tonight after eating at a Mexican restaurant and feeling nostalgic.
Not that you'd know, but this is in Mexico.
Even though I was in a hurry that day, I had to stop for this.

inside of a little nook at a roadside religious shrine somewhere in Mexico, candles would be lit and cards left, so the local Saint would perhaps makes things a bit better, or to give luck, or to help with an illness....
This one had seen a lot of candle burning over the years, cards were recent though.

This is beautiful! I'll have to keep riding and try to figure out the, " how to photograph my bike tour," part. I'm planning on riding the next section with a few other people so maybe I can get a few more photos like this one!

It might not seem much coming from me, but I am ex-journo who used to take a lot of publication pictures. So here goes...

Have a reasonable quality modern camera rather than a phone because the lens quality does make a difference, in my opinion. It doesn't have to be a full-size camera, either -- I have used small Canons and similar for years.

Keep an eye out for potential shots, and concentrate on a composition that is relatively simple, easy to focus on, and with consistently good lighting. Take three or four shots, particularly of people who may look away, or have blinked eyes, or are standing to hide a good part. You also can move a little in either direction to try to get slightly different, and occasionally better, content.

And practice does make perfect. The best pictures in this thread are by people I have a good clue about, including one I have personally met, and another two who are on my list to see when and Machka and I get back travelling again. They not only have great pix, but good ways to tell how they are acquired... and that still counts, these days, for a lot.

Bob, Regina to Las Vegas, pretty cool trip. Must have ridden through a lot of big open sky areas on that one.
A good friend of mine is from Sk, she did bike trips back then also, must not have been many of you doing it in those days.

slides were nice when exposed properly, but a shame when they werent. I spent many a year shooting with slides, and many a year scanning them. You'd be surprised how much more detail one can get out of a slide if you have enough scanning practice and are comfortable with photo editing software--especially with underexposed slides (to a certain degree of course)

DJ, I just use a cheap slide scanner and the default photo program that comes with a Windows computer to tweak them and hope for the best! That was the "Badlands Bike Trip". It went right south through N and SD Badlands, across the top of NE then into WY and CO. VIA Rail Canada Montreal to Regina, Amtrak from NM back to Boston.
