I agree that there is not usually a need to spend $600 for a more than adequate tent; however, there are times when a good tent is cheap insurance. I believe that most bike touring situations do not warrant that much insurance.
The 4-season tent that replaced this one retailed in the neighborhood of $450, and is relatively lightweight at a little over 6 lb.
A well made 3-season tent, I didn't say expensive or UL, will handle most conditions. This is the same tent we use for some of our bike tours.
