Beyond Hope

There are two signs in Hope, AZ that have a "Welcome to Hope AZ" on one side and a: "Your now beyond Hope" on the other side. I have two photographs of the sign - one from March 13th, 2001 and one from October 16th, 2016 both from cycling the southern tier.

When did the spelling change? Anyone have photos of the same sign between 2001 and 2016?

That sign is beyond hope. I blame autocorrect for the decline in correct use of the English language.

I don't know when it might have changed but the 2001 version with "you're" is correct; the contraction for "you are." The only reason I can give for the change is that the proliferation of stupidity, and the insistence on its rightness, has reached rural Arizona. The "there/their/they're" confusion runs a close second.

The U.S. is experiencing an epidemic of stupid.
The prognosis is not promising.

November 8 will determine if the US is really stupid. Take that any way you want.

Here on BF, their are more people peddling there bikes, then pedaling.

(yes, that was intentional)

Really, but I'd have expected "hear" in that sentence.

On a lighter note, and with correct spelling.

While on a loop around Michigan, my wife and I got into a discussion about the road we wanted to take. I wanted to go to Bliss, but she thought we would reach the road we wanted before we came to Bliss. She was right

California schools must be the worst in the nation. No one under 40 here seems to know about you're vs your (YOUR AWESOME! seen frequently), "it's" does not show possession, the aforementioned there vs they're vs their and peddles and breaks used to propel and stop bikes.

Well, when my crank broke, it stopped my bike (until I got it fixed)... Either the crank or my foot on the ground with the pedal still clipped in, that break braked quite effectively!

The proliferation of incorrectly used apostrophes on signage prompted me to create a photo record that I shared with a buddy. My weekly email to him had the subject line 'OTW for "Apostrophe Of The Week" and I never had trouble finding one for him.
