The new jacket arrived, and my first ride in it was great! It did exactly what I wanted it to do, it breaks the wind blast, yet at the same time has great breathability. I'm really glad I went for a bicycle specific jacket. No regular jacket could fit the riding position so perfectly, and at the same time perform the needed wind-breaking function, and be so extremely breathable at the same time. Too bad PI isn't making this jacket anymore, and I don't see a replacement model in their lineup either.

I use that for warmer weather (50's and up) and a Canari Everest for cooler weather.

I use a cheap, neon green fleece for an over layer and wear a wool shirt or 2 underneath depending on the weather. Was below -10C yesterday and was plenty warm fat biking through the trees

A light weight down jacket also works well, though they don't cut the wind as well as other options.

for 50 degrees, I wear long-sleeve merino base layer, tee shirt, and a light Canari wind shell. Easy to peel if it warms up.

I'm glad that you like the jacket.

Brad

PS Hopefully yours will serve you as long as mine has so far.

OK, I'm new around here and just gearing up to tour, so thought to piggyback onto this thread. I have not a destination, but would probably not plan to ride in seriously cold weather.

I think I need one do- all jacket and maybe pants too. Something light and waterproof but breathable to layer under when necessary, and also serve as raingear. Less to carry, right?

Does anything fit that description?

This is what I got for rain. It's been discontinued now, but still may be available at some retailers.

Marmot - Mica Jacket

Thanks! I had already ordered rain gear from O2 when you posted. Hasn't arrived yet, will see.
