Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter
Is there anyway we can agree that how to load a bike for touring isn't rocket science and that there is more than one (best) way to skin a cat.
This thread started with a question about the function of the "hoop" connecting both sides of a front rack. That's been answered, and this debate about a "study" published in Bicycling magazine years ago seems kind of pointless.

Bikes: 2016 Novara Mazama
Ended up going with the hooped Jandd front rack. LBS wanted it gone, I got the impression it was one of those special orders the person didn't end up wanting, so I walked away with it for $32 because I was the only person in months to show any interest. Feels solid, even though it isn't properly mounted (just put on for a quick fitment test)
