Short tour on the Bob Jackson
Left Peoria Friday about 11am went to Johnson sauk St pk then illini St pk. Horrible weather the second day and a guy rolled coal on me twice outside of princeton. Many good folks along the way too.

If you park your bike in front of a mural of a coal burning locomotive, ... ...
Yes, I knew what you meant about rolling coal, nothing to do with rail roads. But when I saw the mural I had to try to make the joke.

serious, what does this mean? Coal truck with stuff bouncing out? I've never heard this expression before so I haven't the foggiest about what you're on about.

Looks nice! Glad you still have some good weather!
As it generally involves modifying emissions systems, technically it is illegal in every state. Glad to see states starting to actually enforce it with their own laws, instead of federal emissions laws, though.
Around me, it is generally reserved for Priuses, thankfully I've never encountered that particular anti-social behavior on a bike.

I'm so glad we don't get coaling in the UK, no one can -
A) afford to buy the vehicles
B) afford the the amount of Diesel and parts
C) be that much of a dick here.
Sorry to hear that happened to you, and hopefully it doesn't put you off going out in the future. Just remember, who's having the most fun, and who's trying to impress their friends and lead a shallow life?

I used to work a couple blocks from a state capital. We saw lots of anti-social behavior.

anyway finally got back. 6 days 349 miles. i went from peoria to kewanee to marsailles to mt prospect in suburban chicago and home. my longest day was 94 miles from mt prospect to illini state park on the way home. terrific time and even camped behind a church next to a windfarm the last night. i put a new saddle on in chicago and i will say i dont reccomend breaking in a new b17 with a 94 mile ride, followed by a 69 mile day followed by a 50 miled day. ibuprofen helped.

For a diesel to "roll coal" the exhaust has to be modified. The justification is better fuel economy. I assume a person who is rolling coal has some serious anti-social issues and maybe some insecurity that sitting up high in a pickup helps to elevate.

your poor keester. What possessed you to do such a thing. Golden rule of outdoor activities, never do last minute change of socks, shoes , or whatever.

Bikes: Giant Excursion, Raleigh Sports, Raleigh R.S.W. Compact, Motobecane? and about 20 more! OMG
Got any more information on your bike build up? I had a Bob Jackson World Tour way back in the 70's. Got stolen right before I was scheduled to leave on a trans USA tour.
Made the trip anyway on a hastily rebuilt basket case Motobecane.

its a new bob jackson world tour i just ordered. i built the wheels from 105 hubs and sunrim cr18s. double butted spokes. i use a 12-34 8 speed cassette with suntour barcons and the crank is 24-39-42. it gives me a 7% half step on the 8 speed cassette. i didnt think i would care about the half step but it came in real handy in long headwind stretches. i was using ancient campy derailleurs for the tour and they worked but when i got home i put a long cage 105 rd on. it works much smoother. really enjoyed the trip. want to go again soon.
