Touring frame with disc mounts and canti posts

Hi folks, I'm on the hunt for a steel touring frame with both disc and canti mounts. Current options on my radar are spa wayfarer (cant afford to buy new, none on ebay), and the dawes sardar/orbit romany (not fond of 26ers, too twitchy and juddery on the rough stuff).

Does anyone have any other recommendations I can set up an ebay alert for? Thanks!

Some Thorn models have both, my Sterling does although that like many of their models is also hub gear specific which to me is a good thing on a touring bike, you might need to wade through their back catalogue to find which ones but their website has a pretty comprehensive history of the models they have sold.
Some Surly have both as well, the Troll springs to mind without looking.

I've never done it, but it seems a competent frame builder could take a frame that had one, and add the other.

Since you cited Spa and Dawes, I suspect you are in UK. I believe the Thorn Nomad Mk III has both.

I am curious, why do you want both disc and canti brake mounts?

Interesting, how is the build quality, did it need any work once you received it? Paint job looks decent!

buy an adapter, add a disc to a canti frame.

assume you're asking about the LKLM.
no real problems. BB and headset went in easily.
welds are clean, paint is nice.

i did a thread back then on each step of the build.

Thanks, I'll check it out.
I want to start my tour with hydros, but not have to worry about being up **** creek if/when my rotor gets bent or a cable leaks, I figure v brakes will be a lot easier to get hold of in rural areas than a bleed kit and a new rotor.

These days with the advent of massive shipping operations I wouldn't worry too much. Plus hydraulic disc brakes are used by mountain bikers all over. Get good quality stuff and you won't have issues. Plus with disc brakes you can still brake if your wheel is out of true. If you are truly worried use cable actuated brakes and bring an extra set of pads and if you know you are gone for looooooooooong periods maybe send a package to a hotel by a certain point. However I think we as tourists get a little over-worried and I don't think we need to these days.

There are hundreds of thousands of hydraulic brake systems on bikes seeing everyday use with zero failures that I think this a non concern. If you had a failure and found a bike shop in the middle of nowhere, they would probably be more likely to know how to deal with and have parts for hydraulic as opposed to V brakes that haven't been installed on bikes in a decade or more. I would just pick either a V brake frame or a disc brake frame and go with it and not worry about a failure. Carry whatever parts you feel necessary.

This is a really nice frame and setup, I LOVE the yellow. But the new ones in your links look nothing like this, the rear dropout is more air than metal and no headtube length. Maybe yours is XL though.
As for the OP fussing over grim brakes?? LOL The ONLY front brake I'll ever use is a SA XL-FDD dyno drum brake. Set and forget till a sealed bearing goes or 32,000 miles. NO maintenance needed.
