Continental contact tyre

Could anybody give me any feedback on these tyres as i am thinking of putting a set on my bike. I did have Michelin dynamic tyres but they have, twice now, come off the rim! and ive had enough.

kind regards. Marc.

I've used the TravelContact for a couple years now without any problems (long life, no flats, no rim problems). About half my riding is on dirt roads so you may get by with a slimmer tire with less tread. Kind of pricey at around $35 at the LBS.

Didn't like em, the sidewalls developed cracks / tears in them after less than 500 miles.

Been running a 28 contact for a while for light touring, maybe 1000 miles and it's been great. No flats, rolls good, easy to get on & off of open pro rims.

My MTB has TravelContacts on them and really like them; only have about 800 mi on 'em but I've ridden through glass, etc.

I've been running Contacts in 700x28 and 700x32 commuting for 2 years now...one flat in that time - it's a good, reliable commuting tire. For touring I've always been a Top Touring fan, they roll a little better, but have sadly been discontinued. I haven't seen the new Top Contact yet.

I have about 350 miles of riding on pavement and limestone with a set of 700x28 Contacts. Much of that was done in October over lots of fallen twigs and bits scattered on the trails I ride, but no trouble at all with the tires. They're fairly fast rolling and have good grip.

Thanks for all the replies, its a great help. I think i will get a set of contacts, they look so robust and, well, good. The michelins i have are fine upto 70psi but if you put 75psi the tyre will come off the rim within 10 miles. No good really.

Thanks again. Marc

P.S. anyone tried the sport contact with the s shaped tread?

I just bought some Top Contacts (with reflective sidewalls) for my cross bike. If I like them, I'll buy another set for my Jamis Aurora. I've been riding a pair of Top Touring for about seven years now, and absolutely love them...except for the fact that I should have gone 32c instead of 37c. Very low rolling resistance for their size, though.

I used a pair of Contacts for part of my TransAmerica. They were the Security Contacts not the Travel Contacts. They were pretty flat resistant, but wore out way too fast. The rear was bald in less than 1,000 miles. I have heard similar complaints about the Travel Contact so I now either use Ultra Gatorskins or Marathon Plus tires. Both seem to hold up well. On the downside the hopefully more durable Marathon Pluses weigh a ton!

The Top Touring is no longer made right?

Correct
"The TopContact picks up where "Pneumatics", "Super Corsas" and "Top Tourings" left off."

If you want something similar but lighter weight, the City Contact is also a reasonable alternative to tour on.

I've been touring with TravelContacts for a number of years. I get about 10,000 miles on a rear tire and about 12,000 miles on the front tire. Typical touring weight for bike/gear/me is between 265-290lbs. The tire is robust. I've only had 4 or 5 flats in the past 40,000+ miles.

Another vote for the Conti Travel Contact. May be overkill, though, if you don't need the dirt track capability they provide.

If you lived in Toronto you could come over and pick up my pair of Conti Contacts. One day when I was on tour in Wales, I had 3 flats! Not impressed!

I'm running on Schalbe these days without an issue.

Using travel contacts I had well over 20 flats during my trip trough Mexico last year, not entirely the tyre's fault since some of them were a series of self adhesive patches that failed, but the tyre is definitely not very puncture resistant.

I started my current trip in the UK with travel contacts as well, but after the third flat I replaced them with shwalbe marathon xr no flats yet with them.
