Touring Computer/Que Sheet Question

Hope this is the right forum.
When touring an unknown area using a route que sheet, what do you do with the computer if you find that you would like to stray or ride off route for a little while and then come back to the que sheet route to continue? How would you reset the trip odometer to be back where it was before you strayed so it would be back with the que sheet.
Thanks,
Tony

Bikes: which one?

I assume you are talking about the odometer - how can you get that to match up with the que sheet? On mine, I have two daily distance settings, so could use one for the total mileage for hte day and then reset the other one every time I got back on route. Would that work?

If I don't think the roads will be well marked then I tend to just go by the incremental mileage to the next turn and ignore the total miles anyway. So let's say the sheet says to turn on 'A' St. at mileage 35.4 followed by a turn on Elm at 39.6. The difference is 4.2 miles, so as I make the turn onto A St. I note the mileage on my odometer, add 4.2 to that and then start looking for Elm street when the odometer gets close to that value.

That way it doesn't matter if my odometer has any extra miles because I rode from home or took a detour along the way, got lost, or whatever.

Thanks, I think this is what I'm looking for. What is your computer?

I use prathmann's approach, and just mentally keep track of the sidetrips etc. At my age it is good to have to think once in a while!
