I also used a pressure washer. It worked great on the chain and decals. I was careful to avoid spraying toward bearings.

I tried the duct tape thing last night. It was "gorilla" brand duct tape too, no luck and that is the stickiest duct tape they make.

I kinda feel the head badge is the frame builder's "signature" and leave them on my bikes, but all the other logos get removed or taped over... ymmv

Normally I agree but if they want me to actually take pride in the brand of bike they make then the damn head badge should at least NOT be a sticker!

I would have actually liked to leave it on but like I said, the thing was already peeling off by the time I got it home.

Wave a hairdryer over it until it's warm (but not too hot to touch) and then peel em off. Alternately, leave it outside on a hot day and then remove the stickers. You can use a knife or razor if you trust your hands. Go over it with rubbing alcohol afterwards - 99% USP is best. Removing decals is part of my job description (the other part is making and applying them.)

I used an old credit card to get the decals off my LHT and it worked great. I had to cut the end of the card off a few times as the plastic dulled, but it was a quick and effective method.

Try as I might, some of the decals came off easily (duct tape, scraping with plastic) and others resisted all but heat. I think that we can conclude that Surly does a piss poor job with their decals.

part of Surly's deal is that they provide bikes at an economical price point, and they purposely allow decals to be removed.

personally, I really like that they come off.

Yep. Hard to shed a tear over a decal that's not even clear coated.

I guess that it may be difficult to have decals that hold firmly short of clearcoating them. Then, in that event, I fully agree with you.

ya, thats part of the deal with Surly, is that they purposefully do not clear coat their decals, so that the buyer can opt to keep them on or take them off.
for instance, take a look at Globe Bicycles, by Trek. I don't think that line of bicycles has 1 single decal. The bike is just plain simple. Thats "the look", complete with a head badge that is designed to hold your business card
the no decal look is a popular look

I agree with you AsanaCycles. I just wish that at least the headbadge was of better quality.
