Clickstand/LHT/BOB Trailer

Does anyone know if a clickstand would work with a LHT with front panniers and a BOB trailer? I'm not real happy with my 2 legged kickstand and would like to do away with it and try a clickstand. Thanks in advance for any input.

Hmmm, I have all three (LHT, clickstand, and a BOB), but I haven't put them together (with the BOB). I did have the double kickstand and the BOB with my Raleigh on my last trip. I really had to be mindful about how I parked. My "rig" fell over several times. With the experience I have with the clickstand supporting my fully loaded LHT (panniers front and back with tent and sleeping bag on top of rear rack), I would be very surprised if the clickstand did not work in the scenario you describe. Make sure you buy the Tour/Tandem bike specific model.

My LHT is on the trainer right now, or I'd go out and fit it all together and give you a report.

I'd not be too hopeful, unless you had a parking brake and a way to secure the front wheel oriented straight (Bungie around the DT and wheel maybe.)
I gave it a go with a stick. The wheel would turn if leaned over too much and dump the bike. Front panniers made it much, much worse since the weight made the wheel more likely to turn the direction the bike leaned, even if just slightly.

I recommend a kickstand on the trailer and bungee on the front wheel, very stable.

Your reply may reveal that you have little experience with the clickstand system. It comes with three brake handle bungees that when applied activate both front and rear brakes. While applied with both brakes engaged for heavier loads there is no need for a front wheel bungee...just turn the wheel to it's stops, it isn't going anywhere.

Nice! I saw the side stand for the BOB, but I figured it wouldn't work with the double leg kickstand I was previously using. It would definetly work with the clickstand. For Surly and the LHT, Surly recommends against any kind of single leg kickstand for the LHT. IMHO I think they aren't super confident with a double leg version either...hence the reason I went to the clickstand. Surly's website has this to say concerning kickstands:

stop the frront wheel from rolling, or turning .. bungee cord or toestrsp ..

Then you may keep your rig from not falling over
with just that single tent pole like strut.

That's a trip, I never knew that before.

I'm thinking that Surly should do away with that spare spoke holder. I'd much rather have a rear chainstay mounted kickstand than a freakin spare spoke holder. I can put a spare spoke or two anywhere.

True. I've read where a few LHT owners ground off the spare spoke holder and mounted a side Kickstand. On the LHTs sporting 26" wheels, I'm thinking the spokes are not too prone to breaking. But then again it is nice to have the spares, I'm sometimes prone to forgetting to purchase some spare parts before my trips...the spare spokes already provided save me the worry.
