It's unclear to me if that's a serious barbed response or an attempted witty response. I'll go with the latter. It's hard to imagine you don't realize irony and sarcasm are commonly misused and misunderstood.

It could be interesting to hear your thoughts behind the phrase I quoted. But if you really take yourself seriously, never mind.

I'm sorry, I really don't understand. Do you have a question?

Bikes: Several

It may be satire, but I thought it was very poorly done and tedious. I lost interest pretty quickly and didn't finish.

Wow, I'm amazed at how some people seem to be able to turn a link to a little humorous piece into something negative. I thought it was funny, thanks for posting. It lightened my day a little, unlike this thread...

Neil, actually this middle aged git did google it, but in my ignorance, I googled them seperately....so turned up Acura references and medical things....

that "let me google that" bit is rather funny though, made me laugh.

Ok if you want to see a video of the of the comments in the original link watch this. he has every think happen to him plus , after loosing his bear spray, he encounters a bear and doesn't stop to take a picture of it (about 45 minutes in)

Between the two I have an idea what is in store for me if, and when, I attempt a real journey across the land

The urban dictionary is your friend!

"Literally, "Too long; didn't read"

Said whenever a nerd makes a post that is too long to bother reading.
"omg you postwench. i can only say one thing in response - tl;dr"
"tl;dr...why dont you give up on your unabridged edition of War and Peace or at least stop posting it here?""

+1 .

I fully appreciated the article was an attempt at humor, satire, irony or what have you. I simply didn't think it was good at any of them.

I was born on a sailboat. My mother made a needlepoint tapestry that said "Living on a yacht is like standing in a cold shower tearing up thousand dollar bills."

What makes the article funny is that an activity like bicycle touring, whose primary aim is enjoyment, necessarily entails so much suffering. We call this "irony". Irony is a common feature of humour. There is nothing "bitter" or "negative" about this piece at all; rather, it is a satirical exaggeration of an irony inherent to bicycle touring. If one were actually bitter or negatively inclined toward touring, it would be impossible to even write this piece; you see, enjoyment is as necessary a support for the central irony of this piece as suffering is. The joke, literally, is the recommendation of suffering for the purpose of enjoyment.

Now I have to take a shower. Explaining humour is a dirty business.
Wow honestly wish I could write so eloquently and succinctly.
I did get a few laughs :-)

Thanks Divtos, but you know what? I feel bad because frankly, I could have delivered what I had to say with a little less attitude. I feel like the plumper who talks down to folks because they don't understand what makes for a proper copper weld. I'm just a grumpy word repair man. That's nothing special. Sorry.

Still, it was some funny ****.
