The phone companies have absolutely NO limits to ringing up the bill to Thousands of $. WTF are they thinking ????
Let Yahoo do it all for free.

I've also been wanting an ewerk that has a battery inside, not separate.
What are you going to do when the battery dies as they all do eventually?
I went with the separate cache battery version and happy so far.

I think it would have made sense to start a new thread since a lot has changed since this thread started almost two years ago.

I would never want to use a sidewall dynamo as a USB charger. I use a sidewall dynamo for my errand bike so that in fall when the sun sets early, after dark I do not have to worry about batteries for my lights for a short ride from the grocery store. But when you use a USB charger you will likely use it for hours at a time for charging things. A hub is the way to go for that.

I am quite happy with my AXA Luxx 70 Plus headlamp with USB charger port. Not sold in USA so I had to pay twenty Euros for shipping to get one shipped to me from Germany, but I still think it was a good bargain.

The USB port is under the light gray cover in the mounting bracket.

I have a SON 28 dynamo, B&M headlight with a USB. Bought the setup with a tail light, to charge my iPhone. Depending on where you are touring, you may want to consider using a rechargeable battery pack or a solar panel. If you are touring loaded and hitting the mountains, you will not go fast enough to charge, on the uphill, and on the down hills, if they aren't very long before the next uphill, you won't get enough time to charge. That was my experience. i recently received a Cobra Jumpack 7500 mAh battery with a USB port. I will bring this from now on, as a back up. On tour, fortunately one of the guys I was riding with had a portable battery, so I used his to charge my phone when I needed the power as I was running the Cyclemeter app all the time, as well as music and an external speaker sometimes. The other battery source that I have is a lantern from Goal Zero. Again, it has a USB port for charging, and the light that it provides is fantastic. On the prairies, and most other days, charging was ok, but in the mountains, not a trusted, reliable source. For my dynamo, speed needed to be MAINTAINED at 20 km/h (12 mph) for extended periods of time to charge at best 3-4% per hour.

I bought this one and run it through a rechargable battery. I made sure I bought a battery that was able to be charged at the same time it's charging a device.

Bikes: Brompton M6R Raw, Pashley Roadster Sovereign, ICE Trike with Rohloff (SOLD) - Pacific Coast Highway

I used a Nomad 7 GoalZero for my trip down the Pacific Coast Highway. It kept my phone charged enough to use day after day, and blog in the evening. I used Airplane mode while sleeping. Always be cautious about areas where there is no signal, as the phone will look for a signal and drain your battery.

Goal Zero has some nice batteries which have pass-through charging which I'm considering buying. Has enough juice to charge phone and GPS, albeit one at a time.

The bike I'm getting, I'm adding a Sinewave Reactor with B&M front and rear lights. I am making sure the lights have off switches so I can push all the current to the UBS when needed, and then on when I need lights and everything is charged. Since I don't have it yet, I'll have to see how much of a battery I can charge, specially with pass-through charging. My guess is that it might keep things topped off, but not hold

Anyone have mathematical formula for speed, and mA and how long it would take to charge a battery per 1000mAh? If I'm getting 500mA out, would that take 2 hours to charge a battery rated at 1000mAh, or am I guessing out my bum?

I'm finding it hard to find how much juice B&M lights suck up. You'd think they'd have those specs somewhere, but I can't find them.
