+1. I love the Selle Anatomica! They've had a $99 sale running lately.

I have had an Ideale saddle, brass embossed rivets, and aluminum frame for 39 years. It is still in good shape and very comfortable, and a thing of beauty. Try getting a plastic saddle to improve with age. I am breaking in a 10 year old Brooks B17 my wife hardly used. A girl talked me out of my first well broken in B17 about 40 years ago. It was perfect. I am going to give my Ideale to my wife for her new bike. Guess I never learn...

Brooks saddles may or may not seem expensive. It depends on what you compare them to. They’re expensive when compared to the crap saddles from big box store “bike” depts, but they’re cheap when compared to many of those fancy euro saddles that cost 2x-3x as much as a Brooks. The Brooks-style leather saddle vs. molded plastic cutout saddle debate will never let up, but I think one thing is unarguable---the saddle I do long-distance riding on is close to if not the very last component on my bike that I’m going to play cheapskate with. A well-made, well-fitting, supportive and comfortable saddle (which probably won’t be cheap) is critical to an enjoyable ride and an uncomfortable saddle can remove all enjoyment from cycling with startling effectiveness.

Bikes: Fuji Touring, Fuji ACR 2.0, Roubaix & a Peugeot of mid 1980's vintage, orig 12 vitesse, now a single speed. Converted to fixie/single speed before I got it.
I put a Brooks B17 Imperial ( a B17 with a slot cut out in the middle) on my Fuji "Touring" and found it comfortable right away. I haven't toured on it, but I ride it every day to work and on "fun" weekend rides, the longest being 100 km +/-. And it feels great! I can easily ride 30 miles with regular, unpadded, pants without any issues. Might could ride longer, but haven't tried. Always had padded cycling shorts on for the longer rides. I had heard stories about "break in time", but mine fit me just fine right out of the box. And, I think it looks great on the bike.

I think you can see by the range of responses in this and other saddle threads that you really just have to try stuff out. I got a Brooks B-17 and have put over 5000 miles on it, but I honestly have to say I'm not perfectly satisfied. Sure, it's more comfortable than some saddles, but I have perineal pressure problems after a couple hours. I just ordered a selle anatomica saddle and am looking forward to trying it out!
