I do have a spambot trap that blocks by ip address based on behavior and/or browser signature. It doesn't usually get tripped by regular users, though, it works by detecting when someone goes into an invisible area that regular browsers can't see, but badly behaved bots can't resist. Anyone who wants to learn more about the techie stuff can see the original article at neilgunton.com: Neil Gunton: Stopping Spambots: A Spambot Trap, by Neil Gunton .

Al, for me to tell whether you are actually in my blocklist, I would need your home ip address (i.e. from the computer where you're having the problem). If you're not techie then one way to get your ip address is through a website that offers this information as a service, e.g.

What Is My IP Address? IP Address Tools and More

If you like, you could note down your ip address (it has to be the EXACT address, so be careful copying it - should be four numbers separated by periods, e.g. 123.32.45.2), and send it to me via email (you don't want to post that type of thing publicly, it's just a bad idea in general). Then I can look it up in my database and tell if it's in there.

I am assuming here that when you say "can't access", you mean "I point my browser at the website and nothing happens, it just hangs". That would be the behavior if you had been blocked in my firewall. But if you are seeing some other behavior, then let me know what you see exactly and we can go from there.

Thanks,

Neil

OK, I know this has NOTHING to do with the topic, but I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU!!!! to Neil for his site. Even a technodino like me is able to post and by using my tablet, I can easily post a pic without much effort.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled postings...
