I'm trying to figure out the levels of quality in shamino drivetrain parts. I've figured out that the XTR componets are the best but I can't figure out where they go from there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

LX is long gone, replaced by SLX over 10 years ago.
MTB hierarchy is complex, as you also have Saint and Zee which filter in, and now XTR DI2.
Add to that, how many speed, as XTR is now 11, XT down to Deore 10 and below it drops from 9 - 8
For Touring, you have the trecking version of XT and then LX which is now a treking only series.

the Mass market bikes get an even lower cost component set .. 100% Robot Made
I''d stick to the good enough Steel axled Hubs . if damaged rare will the Shop be with a spare XTR hubbed wheel to buy .
8 speed will be a pragmatic drivetrain , not overspending . I toured extensively with a 6x3 setup ..

There's also the non-series components. (PDF: https://bike.shimano.com.br/publish/c...Components.pdf)
The first number can give away what the quality level is like Deore might start with a 5. Sometimes you can find them on sale on some sites.

The job of shoving the chain sideways is pretty simple , the fancier ones are more about showing off the Money you put out ..
Adds some durability as the pivots get bronze Bushings around the pins rather than a hole directly around the pin.
cherry-picking is the placing a fancier piece where you see it , then balancing the added cost with a few lower cost components not as obvious.
