Substitute Run Interval for Bike Interval Training?

Hi all!

Would having a Run Interval Exercise have the same effect as Cycling Interval Exercise? (in terms of upgrading Lung Capacity.)
I'm trying to join a race, however, i can't commit with training all week and the best i can do is to Ride on weekends, and run on Weekdays.
I was thinking to use my running time for interval then long rides on weekend and simulation of race.

Any thoughts?

thanks in advance!

Yes, I think running has a similar effect on aerobic capacity as cycling. The problem is running is much tougher on the body so your limiter will be your legs not your lungs. Still better than nothing. I have a set of stairs down to the beach that can provide a very intense workout for 30 min that I'm sure translates well to cycling.
