Training for firstcentury
I will be riding my first century on Sep 24. My longest ride to date is 65 miles and I felt ok on that ride. I usually ride about 35 miles on the weekends and about 10-15 miles most weekdays, culminating with about 100 miles/week. Need some tips for increasing my mileage...I know the 10% rule applies, but where should I start?
Thanks,

MSCycler,
I just did my first 100 miler a couple weeks ago.
Having run many marathons, I used the same formula of simply increasing the weekly "long ride". I stated out with 20 then moved to 30. After a few of those I went to 40, 45, 50, 60 and then hit a 75 miler before going for the 100 miler. It really is all about time in the saddle. Now, if you're looking to achieve a set time goal then one must also do the necessary speed work to achieve that particular goal.
You'll do fine if you work your way up to the needed hours in the saddle.

Look up a lady called 'Machka' in the member profiles. She has a web site which covers a lot of this stuff really well. Jim J pretty well covered it in the nut shell version but if you want more details that site will help.

You might want to check out https://www.cptips.com/ also. This page has a lot of info in itself, and also features some great links.
In addition there is https://www.ultracycling.com/ which features great articles. Go to the training section, or look up old articles on topics that interest you. A wealth of information
Another one of my favourites is https://www.brianmac.demon.co.uk/ which is a page for people coahing. It has a lot of information on lactate threshold, different intensities of training, avoiding injury, setting up a training program etc. Very good.
