While the basic nutrients in fruit are primarily carbs., the caloric density is such that it would be very difficult to really overeat on fruit. They generally contain so much water that your stomach simply can't hold enough to make you fat.

Dried fruit, on the other hand is a different story. You can overeat raisins or prunes, dates, dried apples and the like.

The only real disadvantage I could see with fruit as the major constituent in your diet would be the nutritional need for some fats and your basic protien requirements.

Peanuts (a few anyway) are great for me because they slow down the glycemic effects of the simple carbs with some fat and protien. And you need a little fat to feel satisfied.

Here in England the government (well the Health Department) recommend eating five pieces of fruit each day. I've got no complaints with that as I love fruit, I just wish it were subsidised because it can be quite expensive.

I agree with the water and fiber aspects of whole fruit making it difficult to overconsume.Concentrated juice is also where many people tend to overconsume fruit.

I had to go search for the kidney stone comment. I don't know that I can really agree. Most of us, well let me rephrase that, most men over 40 anyway, are actually potassium deficient.

Old thread back from the dead--FRUIT GOOD!

I adopted a variation of The 80/10/10 Diet (Doug Graham). Eating nothing but fruit and leafy greens for breakfast and lunch and very limited animal products/cooked food for supper, I lost 25# in two months. I feel better, ride better, and love being skinny. I recommend checking out what Graham has to say to anyone curious about performance nutrition.

I go through 15-20# of bananas a week. My gums quit bleeding when I brush and my nails no longer have white spots. I take a tiny dosage of Hammer supplements, drink beer, and eat meat--but not like I used to.

Excess protein is convincingly linked to cancer in The China Study, Campbell/Campbell.

Way to wake up an old thread, I would 2nd some of what WadePatton said. I have worked with Graham's stuff before as well. I think one key to not overeating any particular fruit is eating it by itself i.e. monoeating. Your body will tell you when you have had enough. I have eaten 16 bananas in one sitting before. I have modified my diet since then, but I felt great when on a mostly fruit diet.

Nutritionist as well as most folks in the medical field are trained to tell many tales about eating to much fruit. Its not there fault as the institutions these folks go to learn about such things are usually funded by pharmaceutical industries. Thus they get trained to pimp out dope and kill folks. We the public also get brainwashed with the same info without question thus becoming a faith based system. The food pyramid is a great example of this.
Fruit sugars are way different then sugar from crap foods. The body can assimilate the sugars/enzymes from fruit. as for sugars from crap foods like snickers, protein bars your body will react to it in different way, depending on the individual. Raw fruits (preferably organic if that even exist anymore) are easier for the body to digest and use for energy, repairing the body. So really sugar isn't sugar. Don't worry to much about eating fruit, its a lot better then other things labeled as being healthy. Actually don't worry to much about carbs, sugars, calories that come from raw fruits and vegetables. Your body is made to use all this stuff. You only have to worry about this kind of stuff if your chowing down on "regular food" that your body has difficulty in using as fuel.

I had a similar experience with just eating raw foods. Its pretty extreme compared to whats considered to be eating a "normal" diet. Its also a old ancient religious diet (vegetarianism) used to keep slaves strong enough to work and weak enough to not be able to rebel and run away. Rome, india, egytian of old studied and mastered this and this information was passed along to elites. The United Nations also plan on making the world diet vegetarianism. It goes hand in hand with tricking the public into believing their destroying the earth and transition the world into a new religion called "environmentalism." For those interested you might want to read something called "Agenda 21." But thats another thread. The other extreme diet is eating whats considered "normal" which makes a person obese and unhealthy. Either way were kind of screwed, especially when all the food is genetically modified which essentially modifies those who eat it......................Thats it, no more eating for me. Lets see how long it takes me to die.
