Swimming
One of my friends reccomended that I try a Master Swim Class. Its been a while since I swam and after my first dunk that lead water up my nose towards my brain I'm considering it. I know my form isnt right, and I'd like to have someone teach me how to drill propperly in swimming. My gym offers them for $34 a month thats 4 classes. Is this a good price?

Bikes: Junk, that is why I am here. :-)
I have seen them higher priced for the same thing. If they have a swim instructor that will work with you, you might take the class and then ask for some private swim time.

Swimming well involves two things - learning the correct stroke and building up endurance/speed. The lessons are perfect for the first. Staying with a group like a masters team is good for the second. When you swim in a group and either share lanes or be in adjacent lanes with other swimmers, you pick up their techniques.

i just signed up for swim classes at my ymca...mine was $44 for 7 classes. i thought that was pretty cheap! so far, so good. and humbling. swimming is the hardest thing in the universe! i swear to god, swimming 200 yards feels like running 10 miles or biking 100 miles. it just takes EVERYTHING out of me. but i'm building up my swim muscles...and i'm improving my technique so i'm fighting agains the the water as much...and i'm improving my breathing in the water. so this is working out good for me.
i say sign up for those master classes!

Yeah the 34 is for 8 classes. I'm going to try to start next month and see if they'll let me do 1 a week over 2 months rather than 2 a week for a month due to my tight schedule.

Bikes: 2010 58cm Royal Windsor Triathlon bike - it is alright for now but I certainly hope to upgrade in the next few years.
Man, I am lucky. Our Masters program is free with our gym membership.

also remember swiming in lanes in a straight line is different than most tri's if you have a mas start you have people all over, clawing thrashing swimming over you or into you, i am a strong swimmer so this does not bother me but keep that in mind i could see how it could be scary

Is there a max class size? $34 is cheap, but if you don't get any instruction, you might as well be at the free swim.

I highly recommend the Total Immersion videos and/or books. My wife wasn't much of a swimmer, so she got them out of the library. I think they lay out a lot of the technique in ways that make sense. The drills take a while. But so does anything else worth doing. I swam competitively most of my life up 'til college and I still count strokes per length and compare my times to work on technique.
