Tri Duds?

Doing my first tri in October and wondering what the best choice of tri-wear is. I live in Hawaii so I'm not worried about the weather being too cold. I'm stuck between a simple tri short with no top or a one-piece suit. Suggestions?

go with just tri shorts if your relatively young and in good shape and if your more experienced (im so politically correct) and have a little around the waistline go with a one piece that isnt to tight. please dear god dont go with one thats too tight. im still recovering from my last tri and seeing the older people not wearing enough clothing.

Two piece suits make it easier to pee. Just my $.02.

I prefer the one-piece suits.

Bikes: Specialized Allez Pro; Cervelo P2 SL; Tsunami (Converted to Fixed Gear)

Most races require you to wear a top of some sort.

how large is the GUT? I bought a nice new tight trisuit I was all excited until I saw my huge luv handles....I went with a nice bib under a nice top to hold the gut in..I appeared more thick than fat

Lucky enough to be GUT-less, so not worried about how I would look in one. More curious about preferences. For no reason other than I think they look cooler (because I'm juvenile like that) I think I'm going to go with a one-piece. Though the "easier to pee" argument for a two-piece has merit. Asked the organizer and they said there was no top requirement, but if I continue with this then I might as well get something that would work in any race, right?

Go with a two piece outfit. Yes, it is easier to go pee and the shorts can be worn separate with a jersey or other top. As much as I like to see an in shape male body, I think they all look better with a shirt on. Cover up boys!

One piece looks nifty if you have the physique. Two piece only looks marginally less nifty and is WAY more practical.

I wear a tri short in the water, and pull on a full-zip cycling jersey for the bike and run. I'd wear a tri top for all three, but my team didn't have enough orders for tri tops this season.

For speed in swimming, probably a one piece. If that doesn't matter, then do whatever makes you feel happy/strong/fast/attractive/etc.

Just FYI, a lot of stuff is starting to go on sale as tri season wears down. I got a nice 2XU suit for 20% + 30% off just a few days ago.

Oh wise finder-of-deals,
From where did you locate such a steal? (I swear this isn't sarcastic, it just sounded like that for some reason..and I'm posting in rhyming couplet as well.)

As I indicated in another post, i have noticed in the last couple of tris that I have done that some guys are now wearing Underarmour compression shorts. I wonder if this might be more comfortable than my tri suit--which I think is not overly comfortable.

Finished Ironman Branson on Sept 19 using a Zoot tri tank and Ultra race shorts. I found the two piece is more convenient when you need to go to the bathroom. I also like this set up when I'm doing a bike run workout and wear a regular full zip cycling jersey paired with the tri shorts. The two piece lends itself to more uses, imho.
