Claud Butler Gear Hanger

I'm a bike novice trying to renovate my son's old bike for my use. It's a Claud Butler MTB (no name) aluminium frame about 10 years old. My latest problem is that I think it needs a gear hanger to fit a rear derailleur on. I'm confused about the choices on the internet as they all seem pretty much the same. Is there an easy way to id the correct hanger? It has 2 small holes on the rear dropout.

I'd take it to a Claud Butler dealer. They should be able to identify it.

Broke the hanger on my Bianchi a few years ago and although The frame was a bit special- I did not realise how special. There was no Bianchi hanger that fitted my bike- it was a one off for this frame. Took 6 weeks for Bianchi to hunt out the drawings and make one. Luckily my LBS ordered two so "Next" time I break one- I won't have a 6 week wait again.

Most manufacturers only use a few hangers to fit all their bikes but it does depend on the age of the bike. Hanger types have changed over the years but year and model or frame number should make it so that a Claud Butler dealer can identify it for you. If you have a helpfull peson- this might even be possible over the phone.

You might need one of these:

Check whether your frame has a sort of slightly downward-angled, forward-facing dropout. If so, it's likely one of these will work. Quite a few bike shops still have these. If not, PM me and I should be able to get hold of one for you.

Better yet, post a pic of your drive-side dropout and I'll tell you whether it is likely to work or not first.
