The Plank
Hello!
I 've written a piece recently about the plank, a technique I use the groceries by bike I have tried many methods (like a backpack) but this seems to be the easier and cheaper to use. If you are car free like me and you need to carry a big amount of groceries every week, this could be very useful for you.

if you have any thrift stores nearby, check every once in a while for a big nylon cutting board.
they use a similar material at work that you wouldn't need a bag for since weather isn't going to affect it. I've lucked into grabbing a few scrap pieces that work great for a rack. but if you probaly don't work where it would be available for you, I'm pretty sure it's the same thing they make cutting boards out off.

A handy place to get raw material for projects like this is the local cabinet maker. They have scraps of all sorts of materials that are used for kitchen counters, and most will give you "sink holes" for free if you ask nicely.
My local guy sells these to a bar stool maker and odds are that folks all over the country are sitting on one. He told me he gets a dollar apiece but gives them out for free to friends, like folks who drop in with a cup of coffee. Hint taken, and I now have an unlimited (within reason) supply.
