The Torker Cargo T comes with Black "north road" style bars on it, and they are measurably wider than my old Raleigh. I noticed on Amazon that there are Torker "north road" style bars that sound to me to be same thing. You might go look at the specs, but as I recall, they do not have a photo. Oh and the Dimension (Wide) cruiser style north road bars also come in black. Make sure the bars you order are aluminum, if you order the Dimension bars, I put a set in my wish list a couple weeks ago, and last week, they had been converted to say nothing about the material, and the price dropped to $10. There are steel one with the same bend.

I'd look at Velo Orange, they seem to have a lot of narrow bars, that are French style and even some for the Japanese local market, designed for Japanese women to ride on narrow streets and sidewalks.

Has anyone here used Titec's J-bar or H-bar? Any comments? How do they work with Ortlieb-style handlebar bags (if at all)?

For like three years, I have been working on an Oma-style city bike for my wife, building it up in pieces. If I had known what I was going to go through to get the details I wanted, I would have just spent the $1,000 up front to buy a new Batavus or whatever. But now, sunk cost mentality has taken over, and I've got to finish it, even if I have to re-mortgage the house.

Read this thread with interest, because I could never find what I was looking for: a bar with LOTS of rise, LOTS of reach, and parallel-ish grips (i.e., could have done apehanders for the bolt-upright riding position, but it's not the aesthetic I was looking for.

Tried North Roads (not NEARLY enough reach), then a bar from memory lane classics that looked promising, but turned out to be identical to a Wald bar I already had in the bar bin (good overall shape, but not enough reach):



Why can't you just buy the standard Dutch Oma/Opa handelbars anywhere in this country?!

Stainless!? Not sure I understand why they didn't make it out of aluminum, or carbon steel. But I understand why its expensive, now.

Waiting for my new bars to arrive, Dimension cruiser, in Aluminum alloy (they do make them in Steel). These are the widest bars I could find, and they have bit more rise, and a lot more reach than the Torker North Road bars that came on the bike. I'm hoping these are the silver bullet.

i like the albatross with bar ends for around town type stuff....but for longer rides, i love my titec h-bar with jagwire bar end adapters....

I just got some Velo Orange Porteur Bars, and am happy with them so far.

Found these no name steel bars at a LBS...not sure what bike they'll go on...yet.

Great thread - I have an injury right now and need to get my weight off my hands, so I was toying with the idea of getting a swept back steel bar (like the Wald 867, $15 on Amazon) and replacing the typical straight/flat mtb handlebars on my commuter (a '93 Marin Pine Mountain).

Sorry for any redundancy, but:

1. that bar's clamp area of 1" should work fine with a standard old school (1 1/8" quill for threaded headset) mtb stem?

2. How crazy would it be to mount an old Shimano brake lever/rapidfire pod on there? Maybe on the outer edge areas, right in front of the grips? Would there be enough room for grips and brake lever/shifters?

3. Would the bar diameter work with the shifter/brake clamp?

4. I gather I would need to run new (longer) cables to account for the wider higher position of the lever/shifters?

That is one tasty bike! I love the VO stuff.

I'm planning on putting some mustache bars on my commuter and was wanting feedback from the group on the brake levers I want to use. I'm having trouble figuring out if the levers will follow the bend of the bars. Here's the levers...and thanks.

Wow small world! I was doing searches on Youtube for Big Dummies and found one someone posted. Then I checked out some of his other vids and watched his whole series of his Continental Divide ride. I saw the top tube on the bike and thought, "What kind of bike is that?". And not 3 hours later your posting on here. LOL!

as to bars:
in the last 3 years what I've discovered, is that you don't necessarily need to have you wrists at an angle such as bar ends or road bike brake hoods.

the angle that is offered by H-Bars and the likes of a Mary Bar is quite workable

the inverted Mary Bar provides a couple of hand positions
that are not offered when mounted in the intended orientation that On One had designed for

there was a time when the Mary Bar was not receiving much attention
I told On One that they were onto something with that bar, it was just that they marketed it upside down

compared to the Mary Bar that I have, the Metropolis is a little heavier, but I know its just a matter of time before I will need to replace the Mary that I'm using.

Stock bars and not really a utility bike, but the bar ends generated some interest in the hybrid forum, so I thought I'd show and tell here too. Cannondale XYZ bar ends from around 1992~1993. Is anyone making anything like these? They were mountain bike components though not much advantage off-road vs. normal sized units. I think now that many people are riding flat bars on the roads, these would sell better than they did back then when flat bars were mostly only used on MTBs.

Heres what I'm currently riding on my winter/utility bike. (I was hoping for some snow and ice this year but no luck here in Cape Ann MA! Soon to be converted to fattie slicks.) The bars were in my rust pile- a pile of bits that I keep adding to until it gets large enough to warrant an acid bath. I believe they were from a Schwinn 3 speed - a Breeze or Racer. Heavy, big, and quite rusty. Just like the bike it was intended for! After removing the rust and throwing on a rattle can color (which I know will flake off soon enough) I am happy with how they fit.

I added an old set of bar-ends to achieve the full-on antler bar setup which I saw either here or on the commuting forum. They're great!

Is it possible to put bar-end shifters on the ends of extensions like that? -or is the wrong diameter?

I umm...I dont know! Sorry! I would imagine it may depend on the actual bar-end extender. I will try and measure the inner dia of ones I have and get back to you.
