Xtracycle - Will Bobike Maxi seat work instead of Peapod?

Hi guys, I posted awhile back that I planned to get an Xtracycle. I have the Free Radical and longtail kit and it's being constructed now by a friend. But of course Peapod seats are sold out. I emailed Xtracycle US once, didn't hear back, and have just tonight emailed Xtracycle Canada. But I'm concerned about whether there will be enough seats to preorder one, if I can thru Xtracycle Canada, since it seems like Xtracycle US doesn't ship to Canada? (Can't input a province in the 'province or state' drop box for the shipping addy).

I'm seeing some people saying that the 'Peapods' used to just be a Bobike Maxi seat? Is this so? Are they easy enough to mount to an Xtracycle, anyone know? I'm thinking these might be easier than hunting all over the place for a Peapod.

Bump! I hope someone happens to know. I emailed Xtracycle Canada last night but no word yet. I also tried emailing the US Xtracycle a few weeks ago to ask about the Peapod (I think that was it) and never heard back. At this point it kinda seems to me that they are hard to get ahold of? Which makes me feel uneasy considering I've just put a bunch of money into their product and really need a functioning child seat to make it in any way useable for me. Hrm.

I wonder if Yuba's Peanut Shell kids seat, made for their cargo bike, would work on an Xtracycle? Maybe someone who's familiar with both the Yuba Mundo and the Xtracycle kit can pipe in. At least there are a number of Yuba dealers in Canada so if it is compatible, hopefully one of them would have one in stock. Good luck.

I e-mailed Xtraycle with a question recently and I had a response within 5 minutes.

Very strange. Did you email Xtracycle.ca or .com? I have had no response from either to the emails I have sent (one to each). Maybe I will email them again today.

Yep so did I.

I didn't end up emailing again, instead I just called the bike shop I bought from. They said they will call me when they know anything about the Peapods and that they are expecting stock.

Another shop is expecting Bobike Maxis in the next two weeks too. Anyone know, if I bought the Maxi (say Peapods are unavailable or still uncertain TOA), could it go in the rear position if I get the flight deck? I'm guessing yes but I have no idea? I hope to carry my 6 year old at the front of the riding deck, and 2 year old in a baby seat in back.

You might check out this blog. https://www.katzhome.net/Cycling_Blog/ They've got 2 child seats attached (neither a Pea Pod) without a flight deck. Their pictures show you how they did it (hint: they've installed a regular rack on the Xtracycle as well as some cross members for added stability). Good luck.

FYI--from digging deeper into their blog, they're using an older Bobike seat and a "Co-Pilot Limo" seat. So you shouldn't have problems using a Bobike seat. https://www.katzhome.net/Cycling_Blog...cle-build.html

Hey I just wanted to update and say I emailed again with a 'wtf? why hasn't anyone responded to me?' and I got a response really quickly. Since then I have exchanged numerous emails with the Xtracycle US peeps and they have been super helpful. Word is Peapods are in, and I have ordered one as of today. Should be shipped out by end of next week. I'm so stoked that I'm going to have a complete Xtracycle!! Hoping this helps me ditch the car and have a fabulous summer riding around town with my kiddies.

Oh and in case anyone searches this in future for Bobike fitting, wanted to add that I am not so sure the Bobike would fit in the rear position? All the blogs I have seen it on have it in the front of the rider deck. Not sure if a flight deck would permit more positions but I didn't want to mess around finding out. If anyone does know, I'd be curious.

Im just researching an xtracycle setup... either on surly bigdummy or the freeradical to a cheap frame ican buildup... either way i have twins and xtracycle replyed really quickly to my tweet so you might like that option if emails never got replys... xtracycle said that i could fit two peapods to the xtracycle although ive yet to see any picture evidence online... also cant find peapods for sale here in uk which i presume must be to do with the sold out thing... cheers

Hi poyton,

I'm also building an xtracycle for our twins and haven't seen any pictures of a dual peapod set-up. So far I've only found examples of homemade rigs using two rear-mounted bike seats, which is what I'm resigned to do. I'm surprised someone at xtracycle said it could be done as the peapod mounting hardware really doesn't lend itself to a tandem configuration.

Strange…
