Two Things That Make Utility Cycling Practical for Me

There are two products that make going to the store (and gym, etc.) practical for me.

1.Pearl Izumi X-Alp Seek shoes
https://shop.pearlizumi.com/product.p...239766&outlet=
These shoes are great on the bike and I am able to walk normally off of it.

2.Burley Travoy trailer
https://www.burley.com/products/cargo...ies/travoy.cfm
Where I live in Southern California there are hills (lots of hills... big hills) and all of the places I frequent are at least five miles away.
The bigger, heavier trailers were impractical and in addition the Travoy makes multiple stops possible.

So finally I am doing most of my errands/shopping/gym on the bike now.

I'm not sure about product endorsement, If I had to pick two things that make utility cycling practical, I would have to go with, in no particular order;
Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires--flat resistance is one of the most practical things on the planet
the Xtracycle Free Radical--to increase cargo capacity.

Xtrajack... I agree totally on the tire issue. I run Specialized Armadillo tires.

I pull a kiddie trailer, and I suspect its effect on my tires is small, if any. I run Panaracer Paselas, the non-TourGuard version. I do fine.

I usually use SPD-type sandals and pedals that are plain on one side and cleated on the other.

For me:
Bungee cords.
Reusable shopping bags.

And my tires, since we're sharing, are Schwalbe Marathon Plus or Schwalbe Fat Frank.

Rubbermaid tubs of various sizes. I can combine them various ways in my XC freeloader bags.
