with the racing season over, i'm just riding for fun & s**** and giggles. There's a local canal tow path on which i've trying to set a PB (and possibly go for strava KOM), and while my time was definitely good enough for it today, the GPS started recording about 100 ft off; so no KOM for me. Oh well, serves me right i guess

Mmmm Bovine. I love that place. Last time I was there (I was on a bike tour) I had mixed berry pie. My sister (who also lives in Redwood City) is going to go by there today.

two days in a row…look out now. And I am training at 6k feet, so that hurts. Just nice to turn a pedal again.

4200 kjs today. Not necessarily a hard ride, but man after that long you just get tired. 1 hour with a buddy of mine at 150 watts. It was nice to catch up after being away from the racing scene for a bit. (I don't know about you guys, but i don't see a lot of racers outside of races.).

day 2 of volume weekend
https://app.strava.com/activities/73963723
70mi, 3:45ride, 5500, 3500kj
weekend total
162, 9 hours, 12k, 8000kj
Rode with Art Rand today. Super nice guy. Very humble. Happy to ride just a tiny bit faster than the next fastest guy and pull the entire ride around for 4 hours.
I'm always impressed when I ride with such accomplished people. Someday I'll be that smooth.

I'm stuck in Milwaukee today. I got up a little before 7, drove down to a lakefront park and had an hour run. I found this little MUP that was perfect. Initially, it went through a wooded area, then it was next to Lake Michigan with a park/golf course on my other side. It rained last night, so it was a little hazy over the lake and there was a very light drizzle at one point. I'm not much of a runner, but this was pretty much perfect.

Got a pair of 3hr rides in this weekend. Some threshold efforts before the Quarq died on Saturday. Just cruised at mid z2 on Sunday. HR was basically non responsive and super low. Gonna enjoy a nice short spin today to recover a bit!

back from being out of state and off bike for 4 days - bleh. 2 hours of mountainous stuff with a buddy this AM, I was thinking it would be somewhat easy with some threshold but ended up with over an hour above threshold.. toasted but not overdone after all that rest. i think the magnesium I am taking is lowering the 'burn' I feel up in those zones...

My club's smashfest this morning brought out some big guns. Chris Zappalà as well as Chris Phipps, who came out on his TT bike (with helmet and skinsuit!). We were gunning for the KOM on a 30 minute segment.
Myself and two others got separated behind a slowly descending car on the back side of the first climb and had to really hammer to try and catch back up. We got oh-so-close but just couldn't do it as the pace of the main group ramped up right as the road start to go up again.
I suffered for the rest of the way in a group of 3, then 2, then alone. Good stuff; wish my new SRM had come with a magnet (cough, Ex, cough ) so I could see pretty numbers.
2:30, 1hr z2, 1hr z3, 30min z4.
Doing an hour of 5' intervals tomorrow should be 'fun'.

Right? Those damn strav*******s, ruining cycling.
Thanks! Yeah, no big deal. Picked up an extra Quark magnet from an LBS near works that they had lying around for $5. Numbers tomorrow!
Sorry to hear about the SRM not happening yet, but congrats on getting it!

chasing roasters on Saturday we had a 6-man group. At one point we were three, with Zappala and Phipps gapped off the back when Greg was dropped. I've never been more Fred-Race proud.
But then Sunday Art Rand followed me on Strava after riding together and I swooned all over myself.

Club TT night...
Fricken cold for August and damn windy...Two things that make for less then desirable conditions for a tip top performance, add in dead legs and I was pretty well doomed. Felt like crap during the warmup, which is normal, and HR was low. Took a bit during the actual TT to get the HR up, but once it was at threshold it stayed there. Couldn't push the bigger gears though, guess the 7hrs of tempo/endurance on the weekend was still in there somewhere.
Still not upset with the time considering all that was working against me...
Hopefully it warms up a bit later this week. I am not ready for a vest, arm and knee warmers just yet....

Did the Green Mtn Stage race official practice TT last night. This course frustrates me. My time was 16:28 which is basically worse than mid pack. I think my position is not right... too far forward , recruiting wrong muscles for me, shortening my leg extension? May try moving the saddle back a hair but only have 2.5 weeks to go and don't want to mess too much with something that works in other riding positions.

First real interval session with power. 8 x 5' at ~90% HR (since I haven't done an FTP test, yet) w/ 2' rest between. Uncomfortable but sustainable effort:

a few weeks ago i reached the point in the racing season that i'm thinking about next year.
this morning, i admitted to myself as i was rolling out of my garage with blinkies flashing, armwarmers and vest on, that i am cooked. put a fork in me. i've got a TT on the calender this coming saturday, then i'm taking some time off.
maybe i'll pull those weeds, re-hang that shutter that fell off, or replace the split rails in our fence that are broken. nah, probably not.
