Crit practice. Stayed near the front, took most corners smoothly and with low watts, rode well....ended up in a break and once it disintegrated I went to integrate back into the pack which just flew right by me, just ****ing stupidity on my part. If I could have afforded to throw my bike into the road I would have.

Sac River Ride ... it was windy and rough. I managed a 3rd in the final sprint. Blah.

I did my version of hill repeats...which surprisingly didn't include an overpass.

4x20min high Z3. Avg 315w. Felt great.

Getting longer and longer rides in lately. Looking to do my first 20hr week in 5+ years next week. Looking to get multiple 4hr+ rides/week soon.

Managed to bonk 20 minutes into a training ride yesterday, sheesh. Turned around and limped it home. Easy day today. The big bump in volume I've had is giving me all kinds of odd little twinges and such, mostly in my knees. Nothing that feels like it's going to become a problem, but I'm hoping that I'll sort it all out soon. I really need to get religion about doing my stretches and exercises to work on my standing knee problem and prevent new ones.

Twenty minutes into a training ride - are you sure it was a bonk? That would imply something like not having eaten all day, then riding. Twenty minutes is like 200-250 calories.

That seems more like it's time for a rest block than it does a proper bonk.

My throat no longer hurts, but there's still a wee bit o swelling in there. Was able to do 3x1000w seated stomps yesterday, rest of ride was recovery pace. About to do some lightish openers. With some luck I'll wake up tomorrow and things will be perfect.

Have you tried injecting garlic?

Or smoking it, I heard that works too.

Since now i can hang on crits 4/5 i'm beginning to love 4 minutes intervals. I like the suffering i get on the 4 minute intervals and hopefully i can be able to attack and stay away someday..

I actually did slice a garlic clove in half and plopped them in my cheeks like lozenges. You should never, ever do this, but I think it might have helped.

40 clove chicken. Double the garlic to 80 or so and it starts getting real. Use the garlic like butter after it's cooked, it spreads like medium soft butter. Good on toast, also good mushed up and spread on the chicken. Most recipes call to serve garlic separately - the chef friend (also cyclist) who made it insisted we eat the garlic with the chicken. Make sure everyone around you eats some so that everyone is in the same garlic boat.

It wasn't a full-on bonk. But it was definitely a sensation of being hungry and after ten minutes of a 20-minute Z3 interval I just felt empty. I had a gel, but it wasn't any real help. My legs were fine, but doing a full set of 3x20s wasn't going to work, even staying in-zone was really hard. I think there was a mental component, too. I was able to hit it reasonably hard a few times on the way home, so hopefully not a totally wasted day.

TKP, maybe it means time for a rest block, but I feel like I pretty easily have another week for this block left in me. I also felt crappy coming home from work Tuesday, but I was able to do a good trainer workout later that evening. It happens sometimes. I figure I'll be fine for the weekend.

The only problem with recipes like this is that literally everything that comes out of your body smells like garlic for days afterwards. Which is a shame, because it's so damn delicious.

I've full on bonked twice in my life and never felt hungry. Were you just maybe already out of gas? You say your legs were fine...but maybe they were already drained. It happens. But I wouldn't describe it as anything close to a bonk.

Yesterday rode to team crit practice course, did the training, rode home for ~65 miles and 230 tss. Won the field sprint at the end for once.

Day off the bike today, maybe running with the dog and some core work at the gym, then probably doing the local group ride tomorrow. Couple hours on Sunday and then a crit on Monday. Lots of volume before the crit, but it's not an A-race so whatever.

A long time ago I asked my mom for her recipe for chile colorado. I think it called for 6-8 cloves of garlic but I didn't understand the difference between cloves and flowers, so the I probably had 40-50 cloves in it. That was a lot of garlic, even for me.

Went out for a very long ride (73 miles) out to Harvard, ma to do some course research (thinkingof racing there next weekend). Lots of climbing, well a lot more than I typically like to do!

Good luck. Crush it.

There are so many Northeast officials at KSR that I will be the Chief Judge at Stafford on Sunday. Bring your protests. I dare ya.

The MRC race then, how much climbing are we talking?

Ride today but one hard effort and I was utterly toast due to lack of sleep this past week. Hoping to just chill, catch some shuteye and do wells this weekend.

Well, I'm a wimp when it comes to climbing, but yesterday I did 2300ft, the route from Concord to Harvard is generally uphill, plus the lowest gear my bike has at the moment is 42-23, so it was a bit of a grind for me . The course itself is definitely more up than down https://www.strava.com/segments/9020410
