So the motorist was passing on the right, the lane ended and the motorist took to the shoulder to try to complete the pass and hit a cyclist that was riding on the shoulder. Don't think this one will end with the drivers in the jury saying... "oh but for the grace of God this could have happened to me..." Nope, this was clearly an episode of aggressive driving gone overboard.
No alcohol or drug use was cited during the driving offense.
A motorist who was allegedly trying to pass two cars on the right side of state Route 67 when he struck and seriously injured a bicyclist participating in a charity ride was ordered Thursday to stand trial on a felony charge of reckless driving causing great bodily injury.
The truck driven by Douglas Lane, 51 cut off two cars as a lane ended, striking bicyclist Ambika Sundarsan on the right shoulder of the road.

Judge Charles Rogers said the defendant showed a wanton disregard for safety when he decided to pass cars on the right when he shouldn't have been passing.

I can't stand it when people do that, willingly waiting until the very last foot to make the move over to the continuing lane when they're in the lane that's ending, and expecting the people near them know they want to move over when they aren't signaling. And that's as someone in a "cage", driving.

YEARS ago, I was traveling by car in one of these situations when the vehicle in the ending lane forced me into the (street-level) "median" because they refused to give room when they were next to me (front doors even with each other).
