Dura Ace 7600 cranks + Shimano UN53
Thinking about getting some DA 7600 cranks only because they're being offered at what seems like a pretty good deal. However, they'd be going on a bike I ride in the rain (whose existing crankset/BB already needs replacing anyway), so I'd prefer not to have too expensive of a BB in there (7610). Can I get away with running a Shimano UN53 w/ 110mm spindle? Theoretically, it should mean the chainline maybe be off .5mm which is a hell of a lot better than my current drivetrain on that bike. Anyone done this?

53 and 73 models have been discontinued. The 54 is the replacement, combining the lower price point with some of the benefits of the higher end model (hollow axle, lighter weight).
As for the OP question, the 110 will work but you'd be better off with a 107 (the 110 has the non-drive crank arm offset 3mm further out).

Yep.
This way you could use a spacer on the drive side and get 1-2mm of adjustment from it.

First you have to join the coalition that believes the 75's are actually somewhere between ISO and JIS as far as their taper.
But yes, the 107 will work fine......at least for me.

i did that for a couple of weeks (w/the 110mm version of the UN73). ran fine. i'm a perfectionist, though. in the end, i had to have the crank and bb match. shrug.

So, my cranks are ****ed and I need to replace them tomorrow. I'm going to buy some Sugino 75s.
Will someone take pity on me and just tell me which sealed bb I should go with? My brain is too holidayed-out to figure this **** out for myself.

In theory and according to Sheldon Brown, you can interchangeably use ISO and JIS tapers. What has resulted in practice?
For cheap, sealed ISO bb's, it looks like there's the Miche 107 mm (for which I have read rather mixed reviews) or a Campagnolo 111 mm.
Edit: Does anyone know which models of Campy bb's are symmetric and asymmetric? Its says here that Centaur, Veloce and Mirage 111 mm are symmetric. Can anyone confirm?

Awesome, thanks for your help. I'm looking at the Campy bb now, but being 111mm, it won't give me a perfect chainline with 75s correct? Perhaps the asymmetry is enough to compensate?

Ya after a bit more research I edited that statement, but I'm looking for confirmation. In any case, the 75s are meant for a 109 mm ISO symmetric. Using a 111 symmetric will put you out 1 mm and using the Miche 107 symmetric will put you in 1 mm. 1 mm doesn't sound like much to cry about, especially since there's probably some error when sliding the cranks onto the taper anyway. It's never going to be perfect.

there is, as you probably know, a shimano dura-ace 109mm sealed njs bottom bracket. they are the recommended bottom bracket for the DA 7600 series cranks. not dreadfully easy to find, but the best way to go if you can dig one up.

that's the thing, they're tough to find and usually come w/ the crankset.

my nice bike -> my gf's nice bike -> my rain/lockup bike -> her rain/lockup bike -> the part box
(though we're getting to a point where some of her components are nicer than mine...)
