Pedal not wanting to spin.
Time rxs pedals about three years old. The right one is perfectly fine but the left one is very stiff and hard to rotate.
I took both of them apart and cleaned any gunk and put some grease on the bearings. Nothing appears to be broken internally.
I swapped the sealed bearing from the good one to the bad one to see if that was the issue, but it didn't change anything. What kind of pressure do you think is keeping it from rotating?

Bent axel/spindle? Can you disasseble far enought to either roll the spindle on a flat surface or place a straight edge against it. I've never taken one of these apart so not sure if it's possible to check in these manners..

I resurrected a pedal once by creating a hole in the plastics end cap with a drill and a hot needle. I used a pen oiler to squirt oil into the pedal on a regular basis. Eventually it was good as new. You do not want anything especially metal falling inside the pedal. This is a trick mentioned in Doug forester's book.

Well as far as I can tell all the bearings are in perfect shape and the whole thing is sealed, so it can't be a grease problem. The pedal spins fine until I screw the end cap back on all the way. It's like something is pinching it but I can't imagine why. There's a ring that sits against the outer side of the bearing nearest to the cranks. Could that have worn too thin?

Seems like you isolated the cause (tightened end cap), but why? As Mondoman suggested, swap rings, or even caps. Just change one variable at a time and see what gives.
Is there an exploded diagram of the pedal you can attach?

can't seem to find a diagram on the internetz. I'll switch out the rest of the parts. Seems like the obvious thing to do and why I hadn't tried, I'll never know. Thanks fellas
