Steering to loose
New bike and can't ride hands free. No problem on previous bikes. Any reason I can't just tighten it up a bit - aluminum frame?

New bike? take it back to the dealer for the after sale service that comes with
buying a bike from a proper bike shop..
didn't get it from the Bike shop, they will do the work for a bit of Money.

I'd take it back to the LBS too. I could be any number of things. If your weight it more forward on this bike than the old one, you could have the same experience. Or, it could be that the headset just needs a bit of adjustment.

Only tighten the headset if it has play. It should turn freely with very little drag and without any play. The ease of riding hands-free depends on the frame geometry (rake, trail, and wheelbase). This certainly varies between different bikes. If you can't ride hands free at or above ~15mph, it may be that the headset has play or is too tight.

Normally, it is only an over-tight headset adjustment that would make hands-free riding difficult.
Does it pull to one side? Is the front wheel in perfectly straight?
