Univega Activa 200 21 speed Tange Chromoly Frame 700 C

I picked up this bike and I want to sell it. I need some info though. How much is it worth? What Year is it? Is the frame Chrome under the gray paint? It looks like a shine I have never seen before. I put on a new SRAM chain and Shimano Tourney rear derailleur. I also put on an almost new 7 speed freewheel. The 700 C rims are round and true and I picked up a very nice set of used tires from the $5 bin at the LBS. The paint has some scuffs and scratches but over all it looks good.

Replacing the saddle, grips and pedals could really make a big difference in the appearance. The area around the third pic (shows the Tange decal) shows a lot of clean-up could still be done. With a little more work I think you could sell for $125-$150 in the Chicago area. Might have to wait til spring though.

More clean up? oh boy. If you would have seen it before, lol. Those close ups do reveal a bit more than the eye can see. Well, at least my eyes. (Rolling up my sleeves now) I can check the 5 dollar bin for some better pedals and a seat but I am afraid I wont want to sell it then if it looks to good. (That ugly seat is the most comfortable seat I ever sat on )

Well if it don`t sell only my wife will be mad. I have not gone off road since I was 17 and I have woods 2 blocks from my house. I wonder if I can still hold up after 31 years away from the hills and jumps?

I have $40 invested and a lot of time. If I get a $90 offer I will take it. If not, the old man is going off road.

If I strip the paint its Chrome? That would look sweet. I could maybe throw some drop bars on it............... Oh boy my wife is going to kill me.

Ask $100, take $90 would be a good plan for Portland CL. Might take a while, though. Anything over a hundred would remove a lot of ad views from those that select a $0-100 filter in their searches.

I'd wild guess the year to be 1990.

Yes, I think so.

As noted above it looks like "Smoked chrome finish", translucent paint (a little like clear coat with some color in it) over chrome.

Don't strip it if you want to sell it. Nice original condition markets better. I agree about the ~$100 price range, but it's pretty cold for riding in Chicago right now, isn't it?

I drive a Semi with a 40 Ft trailer all day 5 days a week on the north side of Chicago. I dodge commuters all day long in rain snow and below freezing temps. I will take a short ride down to 20 degrees if there is no ice on the road. We get used to it.

No it is not worth stripping. That is a what Univega called a Black Chrome finish and it came on several models in the early '90s. If you start stripping the clearcoat you will likely find the frame is not 'show chrome' finished and it is rather rough and needs a bit up keep.

In keeping what Work said this was a pretty basic machine and I think it only had a TreTubi ChroMoly frame maybe even 2 tubes. Is the fork chromoly? Everybody did some funky stuff back then the important thing was to get a tubing brand and the term ChroMoly on the frame. If the rules only required 2 tubes guess what?

Also you violated one of my pet peeves with this post. if you only interested in a bike because you think you can make a quick buck on it but don't know what it is or what it is worth don't bother with it. Leave it for someone who wants it.

Looks like a replacement fork on the OP's Activa. Hybrids get better money than the bike "snobs" would let on. Many old timers and women want to ride sitting up, not hunched over. You'll need much better photos and no snow in the photos or on the ground to get a better price.

Sold the sister to it on 9/8/13 for $175 in Ann Arbor. It was cleaned and overhauled.

I wouldn't put a lot more money or time into this bike if you intend to sell it you likely wouldn't get your money back. As it is you should be able to ask $130 so and get it sold for $100 or so fairly quickly. If you wait till peak springtime in several months you would be able to get $30-40 more for the bike. While nice bikes to ride older hard frame Hybrids just don't get a lot of value interest. This bike would be a great candidate for a dropbar conversion if you decide to keep it.

The fork looks original the pic and reflections from the white snow just make it look a little lighter color wise than the rest of bike. This is is why one should never take a sell pic with snow in the pic it just makes stuff look not quit right.

That bike is just so much better looking than mine.

The sticker reads "Chromoly Frame". I`m not sure how I can check to see what is or is not?

As for selling the bike, I just purchased a Motobecane Mixe for $30 that is going to be fun cleaning up and making look beautiful again. Then I will sell it. I will be happy and so will the buyer. I can`t keep every bike I fix up and I enjoy fixing up bikes.

I think I bought the bike!

It looks like I bought the Univega Activa 200, but from a seller in my neighborhood. I'm going to use the Univega as a all weather bike commuter and it's not bad. I asked the seller if he was a member on BF and he said he browses few times but said no, not a member. Anyway the bike will work for me and I changed the saddle

@Bianchigirll I thought the Univega Activa 200 was the same one that I just purchased, I was wrong. Mine is in better condition with chrome. I bought the bike to ride in Chicago's ever changing climate, rain, snow, ice and cold. This way I keep my other bike's dry and warm, and it beats riding rollers!

My girlfriend is fixing up one of these (~1990 Univega Activa 200 - looks identical to the OP's picture), but the person she bought it from had swapped out the seat post for one that's too small.

Can anyone tell me what the original seatpost size for this bike is?
