Some incredible bikes in this thread. How come I could never find any nice old touring frames/bikes in my size when I was looking for one? That Richard Sachs touring bike is what I would call a Holy Grail. If I found one of those for a reasonable price, I could quit right there.

I'm pretty pleased with my stable right now, however. In addition to the Bob Jackson I posted earlier in this thread, I've since picked up a used Waterford RST-22 that was just my size for an incredible price. It doesn't appear designed for heavy loaded touring, but will do just fine for commuting, light touring, randonneuring, credit card touring, etc.

Nice looking bike! I'm lucky my LBS carries Salsa cork tape in tan and brown. How do you like the rando bars with the Tektro levers? I'm planning to do this on my Centurion soon.

I've been debating selling it actually...it's just so minty that I'm afraid to ride it...and I have an awesome tourer as is. It definitely is awully unique and beautiful...

Your Waterford looks like an AWESOME all rounder'. I'd rather ride that than the Sachs truthfully.

I put about 60 miles on it this weekend seeing how I like it and the wide bars are great. The levers are nice except I feel like I mounted them to far down.

Keep talking about those levers. I've been spoiled by the solid feel and size of brifters over the years. I have an old pair of shimano aero levers on my SS, but they feel too flimsy- like I could rip them off the bars if I tried. I've had my eyes on those tektros (and the cane creek SCR5s), are they as solid and substantial as they look? I can't get my hands on a pair, so I've been asking around.

I'll keep that in mind, but I have some pretty generous offers floating around on this one.

Suntour Superbe Pro derailleurs
Shifters - Rivendell bar-end (bar cons)
Phil Wood sealed bearing BB

Dia Compe AERO brake levers
Alexrims 700C wheel-set - Bontrager Race lite 700x23 tires
Planet bike fender set
Selle Anatomica Titanico X saddle

Hoss your bikes look absolutely fantastic. I'm curious though, is it comfortable for you to brake from the drops? I don't think I would be comfortable with that bar angle, but to each his own.

They are definitely not flimsy. I have a pair on my '84 Odyssey and they feel great in the hand.

hi all, i've just posted some pics of a tourer that i am trying to work out what it is if anyone is able to help. It is at this thread - https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...n-and-ID-help.

I've also go a Spokesman tourer in bright yellow that i will have to get some pics up of it. Running the old scott at4 bars on it. No touring done of yet, but v comfy for long rides on the spokesman.

I'm thinking of using the parts of the unknown tourer to build up another touring frame later when i find a frame that fits. I like the idea of friction touring - less to go wrong?

My Voyageur SP is coming along well. Purchased as a frame/fork, and built with a mix of components from the parts bin, ebay, ibob listers, and BF members. Rides beautifully, but a bit cosmetically challenged, a perfect combination in my opinion! I still have a few things on the to-do list, will go shopping for racks soon, may add fenders as well...

Still deciding its fate. The frame is smaller than I had hoped but I could not pass it up. I think a longer Nitto stem might do the trick if I keep it and rebuild it.

Yeah that lovely Expedition looks to be about my size! However, it would just wind up being a replica of my Univega if I owned it, and the last thing I need is two bikes that serve the exact same purpose. I can't believe I just typed that.

I installed a Racktime front rack on my Voyageur this weekend, but it will probably be replaced with a lowrider rack and a handlebar bag.

Here's my 1990 Miyata 600GT. I bought it used a couple of years ago, and it's undergone various tweaks and modifications since then. The dynamo lighting setup is the most recent addition, and it'll be getting a VO front rack soon as well. I've got a length chain inside an old inner tube looped through one of the saddle rails and one of the seatstays to keep my Brooks safe from casual theft, since the bike needs to be left locked up outside often - it's hardly an aesthetically appealing setup, but it's cheap and any probably adds some level of security.

Not the greatest pictures, but they're what I have lying around on my hard drive. The second one is from a recent overnight trip that I went on. Overall, it's a really fun and versatile bike.

Really nice. I've found that attaching the old chain to the front rails and underneath the top tube tends to look a little better, but if you don't have space under the saddle for that then obviously that won't work.

1987 Schwinn Tempo - I was just out for a pleasure ride, so she doesn't have her shopping panniers on. I eventually want to add a front rack, and replace the powder coated stuff (bottle holders, racks, etc) with chrome. I'm also on the lookout for a nice chrome frame pump I can mount along the top tube.

Nothing against you for repurposing, but that is a Columbus tubed racing bike? It is not going to hold up long term under that kind of usage(loaded touring/riding). It simply wasn't designed for it? The brakes were also designed for just a bike and rider, not a heavy load. It could lead to some scary situations on descents.,,,,BD

I don't know - the person who gave it to me said it was a touring bike.

Unfortunately they were wrong. Touring bikes from the early 80's on typically have 2 sets of braze on mounts on the fork dropout and rear drop out, mid fork rack mounts, and come with cantilever brakes.

This has one set of braze ons, for fenders only (and the ones you are running are way too big, but hey if it works), as you can see the rack is mounted to the seat stays with clamps. This should be fine for going to the grocery store or commuting, as long as it's not excessively heavy loads. But it's definitely not a touring bike, and I would never load it up with gear to actually tour with.

https://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1...0/1987_06.html this page and the next one are where the 87 prelude and temp were featured in the catalog. Take a look.

Also the double crank. Touring rigs usually come with a triple.

On the bright side, I figured that if I ever wanted to do any road racing I'd have to get a different bike - looks like I already have what I'd need.

But actually this kind of makes sense - my boss (who gave it to me) is pretty affluent, and does credit card touring, so she'd not have loaded it down much at all.
