^^^That looks like it'd be perfect with one of those leather handles for sale in the C&V for sale section.

Edit: Not that it isn't super as is, of course.

I picked up this Guerciotti/Columbus TSX on Craigslist a couple weeks ago. It had a bizarre mix of components, but I had enough Ultegra and Dura Ace to get it running to suit my needs.

The STI levers came from an '04 LeMond Buenos Aires. I put 9sp Dura Ace DT shifters on it in early 2010 for novelty's sake and never went back to STI. This is the first time I've ridden a bike with brake shifters in nearly 5 years.

He sold it around the time he left Serotta. Besides a custom serial number that includes his initials, there are also two "F"s engraved in the cantilever bosses, one front/left and one rear/right. Lugged steel, no tubing stickers, ribbed steerer tube so there's some Columbus in there. Pretty straightforward build without most of the "modern" Serotta hallmarks: straight chainstays (no S-bend), semi-wrap seatstay caps (i/o fastback), no shaped/formed/flared tubing. Front canti bosses are narrow, 60mm c-c, so most modern canti calipers won't fit.

Built pretty much as a race machine, there are no bottle/rack/fender mounts, no drilled bridges/crown. Brake/der housing runs above the top tube or below the down tube, for better shouldering. True to its time, fits 30-32mm rubber with lots of mud room; 35mm is possible but gets pretty tight at the chainstays, 38mm+ is a no-go.

I'm just realizing this doesn't exactly fit this thread, as it's titled "retro roadies," not "retro 'cross," but this probably will see more pavement than mud/gravel.

Great build.

Certainly an interesting back story with the frameset as well.

Bet it rides well.

This is a 1991/2 Quattro Assi. From the research I have done this frame was made in Italy by Tommasini for William Lewis Imports out of Texas.

I have a few C&V's so this one I wanted to do as much carbon and modern items as I could. Pics are before and after the build:

Wow, those look like long cranks for that bb height. Maybe it's just an optical illusion or maybe I've never looked at mine.

Thank you sir! Stage two might entail a carbon threadless fork and headset... so more mods might be in store..

Believe it or not it is just an Apex group - it is actually my first time with SRAM. In collecting the parts I ended up with an extra FD and set of levers - so I am thinking to finish off another SRAM Apex group and build up another frame...

The pavement at my garage meets with about an inch of difference for water runoff - so there is more room there than looks!

Cool, I was thinking about pedal strike during cornering, but it sounds like that wont be an issue.

Got your PM but I am not to 50 posts yet so I can't respond!! LOL

I can't believe you remember that prior build! It was a 55cm Team Fuji and this QA is a 57cm which is more my size... the Fuji I ended up raising the stem a bit but the bike is really not suited for me anyway.

The QA I've only ridden 3 times so far, so far so good... if I am interested in changing the stem later I'll let you know first...

If I recall, you also built a few for your friends. People don't forget good people, or the things they do.

If I can help, let me know. I gathered a bunch of stems for my Wraith road build.
I'll be holding onto some if I get a cross bike from Wraith, then releasing the rest from captivity.

That right there is how I wish I could build a tourer. Saving the picture for future reference.

'79 I believe (M9A14510). Thanks for the complements. Big thanks to RobbieTunes for all of the Centurion info. 50 or so paved miles so far. Dirt/gravel after it is tuned up.

Stickers or not, that's the way to rock an Ironman. Great job, huge value.
You may want to post it on one of the Centurion threads (Ironman thread or serial # thread) or both.

Thanks man! I actually just took it for the first test ride today and it was very very smooth. The carbon seatpost on top of that frame makes the road disappear. I did 20 miles on my new carbon bike and then came home and switched and did 20 miles on the Ironman and it was like being on rails compared my carbon
