The seller seemed to think that "California bike" is a selling point.

Same with cars. CA doesn't use (or need to use) salt on their roads in winter. Of course... the seller may have over-looked airborne salt from ocean winds.

BTW: Nice bike!

Guy here paid big bucks for a one owner, "never seen snow", "never left California", 1970 440 Cuda from photos only. He never gave any thought that it may have been on the coast most of that time. When the transport company delivered it he thought it was going to collapse before they got it off the truck. He was able to salvage the drivetrain, interior and the firewall and cowl with the VIN tag, all the outer sheet metal and floor were full of tiny little rust holes. He eventually found a rust free shell in New Mexico and after $$$$$ and a couple years had a very nice 1970 440 Cuda.

At this time of year in the Midwest.... I at least... sort of envy Californians and the Californianess of their bicycles.

Bull feathers!!

Maybe in the beach cities there's a corrosion problem, but that represents a very small part of California's total area. There's a far larger part of the state that's nowhere near the evil corrosive vapors of salt water, where rust is almost non-existent. I'm lucky enough to live in one such place. If you find a corroded bike here, there's a very good chance it was imported from somewhere else, or else left on the lawn under the sprinklers.

gee you would think that you could have figured out that I was talking about the coastline without spelling it out like I was talking to a 2 year old

"Custom Road Bike?" Looks to be a hybid bike with the bars flipped over, the FD and one chainring deleted, corncob, RD replaced by an idler pulley, really cheezy seat post (reversed) and seat (saddle). I love what he's done with it :-) Probably be worth more it were not "customized."

I especially like the way he detached to v-brake noodles, giving the bike something less than no stopping power.

Nah, it's just something the seller sees as a selling point. All his selling points are ridiculous; I don't care where the bike has been, I doubt it has been greased since it was first sold. Probably in need of complete overhaul. And the gloss he runs is just ridiculous; I hate it when I go to check ebay and find the same basic bike (minus the super valuable reflectors, keyless lock, rotting tires, zefal pump, etc.) selling for nothing near what the CL seller claimed:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1972...item258638c759

I don't think the Brooks saddle is worth an extra 1,050$ somehow or other.

Looks like a not so great ATB that someone did a lousy job of converting to SS cruiser not even worth a $100 in most markets.
