Right now, for the holiday break, I am cat-sitting +2 cats for my wifes friend.
From top left to bottom: Lambada, Machine, Bishop Barnaby (mine), and Pancakes (mine).
I love these guys. The first day was hell when the new cats came. But we had prepared some by swapping towels that the cats had slept on (trading, familiarizing smells). At day 4 they are all playing and having a great time.

[QUOTE=DrIsotope;18567903]Jiji just turned 3. Spends more time up trees and on the roof than anywhere else. Appears to be made of at least 75% murder. Songbirds, hummingbirds, gophers, ground squirrels, even a dove one time. Nothing is safe.
This is actually a pretty big and largely unrecognized problem. I love our cat, but keep her indoors where the only damage she does is to the couch cushions.

My little 8 pound black and white tuxedo cat is like that. I find piles of feathers about once a week, and have to wonder if it's her, or the hawk I have seen in the area. This cat can run up a tree from a full speed sprint, and trots along 4 inch limbs like it's nothing.,,,,BD
I have seen her take down at least four doves, a rat, and two mice. That's only the animals I have seen her catch. The true death toll is probably much higher.

So I should also have a talk with the family of migratory falcons that roost in our trees every spring? They kill everything with wings.
And as far as I'm concerned, the cat can kill as many gophers and squirrels as she wants. She eats most of them. And by most, I mean half of each one. Usually the bottom half.

She was saved from a warehouse as a tiny kitten, with no siblings or mother in sight. There were other cats as well, but you could tell who was related to one another. There are also other animals that make their way through this warehouse, and many times we have found half of a poor cat that ran across one of the others. They are not the top of the food chain in the late night wilds of a drafty inner city warehouse..,,,,BD
Mostly my point was, that she didn't learn her hunting ability from a parental figure, or peers. She was a kitten on her own, and even shunned/ignored by the other cats. I hate to imagine how prolific she might be if she had a Mom to teach her how to hunt. It was all pure instinct. I finally took her home when she started walking across open area where forklifts were running. She may not have lasted much longer.

Add garbage fed 30 pound raccoons and opossums, and you got it. As far as c.h.u.d., I think we have a few working there I have seen a very large tom cat running around. It makes my 16 pound orange cat look normal sized. From looking it up, I swear it is a Chausie, as rare as they are. Might be one that got out in a nearby neighborhood?,,,,BD
It was this exact color, and was lean with long legs. We thought it was a bobcat at first...
