This week I have had to bury my cat, Theodore after 14 years of having him as my furry buddy. He came to us as a runt, abandoned and barely alive. His tiny little nose was black and shriveled. My wife fed him infant formula with a medicine dropper for the first three weeks. He disappeared a few years ago and we thought he was gone forever but then reappeared. Two years ago he got sick twice and we thought we were going to lose him then but he was a tough cat and came through. I really thought he would pull through this time too, he seemed to be getting better.
Sunday, while sitting in his favorite spot he just simply fell asleep and passed.
He was a perfect companion to each of my children as they grew and was ever present by my side.

Very sorry to hear that, losing a good pet is one of life's definite low points.

Theodore looked to be a great companion. Hold onto the memories...

Allow me to share my condolences also. My wife and I had to put her cat Tiger down after 17 faithful years. It was a tough decision, but she was really doing badly and it was the right thing to do. Still doesn't make it any easier though as they truly become family members and I know how much they mean to their parents.

Not to turn this into a sad thread, but we lost our cat Fred at 17 year old this past summer. He had slowly been going downhill for months and when he went outside one morning I said my goodbye to him and told him it was OK if he did not come home. I hate funerals. Later that evening my wife wanted to check on him and called for him but did not come. He crawled out of the woods about hour later and laid down in our pet cemetery. The next day I buried him in the exact spot he chose.
This is the last picture I took of him the week before he died.

It seems like several of us are losing our "shop" cats...glad that you got to say goodbye...unfortunately for me, Naboo simply stopped coming home...did not get that chance.
My condolences on your loss...

My condolences to all. Having gone through that with the previous pair of fur kids (both passed several years ago), it's tough to read these.
May your furry family frolic in fields of catnip forever.

For those experiencing the grief of losing a pet friend, I'd like to recommend reading "Racing in the Rain." Told from the viewpoint of Enzo (sorry, dog, not cat....) it's a refreshing, touching and hopeful viewpoint--and a darn good read also.
BTW, my current avatar pic shows "Buddy," a great pal who got a little too frisky with some neighborhood dogs...RIP.
All the best,
STP

Also, the above comments about folks losing their cat friends surely brought a tear to my eye. Growing up with cats my whole life, but not having my own since leaving for college, I can't wait to have a shop cat. The lady is allergic, but having a cat in the garage in the future is something I've managed to get her to agree to.

Losing a pet sucks. This stray turned into a good friend before passing on. So it goes.
I rode to visit a friend last night - Ginger got good and comfy in the beer bag.

Noelle (top) and Shadow on the back porch. They use that furniture a lot more than we do. And for some reason, they don't scratch at it. I guess they figured out they might get banned for life if they did that.
Edit 90 minutes after original post: DW just texted me from the SPCA, which has a storefront at the local mall. This picture could possibly be an incomplete rendering of the number of cats by the end of the day. Can't complain, because we would then have the same number of cats as bikes.
