I bought a set of similar wheels from Velo Mine a few years ago. Were you to source all the components independently and assemble identical wheels yourself, you'd have a very difficult time getting a total cost lower than what Velo Mine charges for a complete wheelset. However, as I found, the spoke tension in the set I bought-- identical except for Ultra 6700 hubs-- was "all over the place," to quote the very competent mechanic at my LBS. The first time I rode on the wheels I was getting a rubbing noise from the rear, which was due to the varying spoke tension. A few rides later, likewise the front wheel. Long story short, I ended up spending another $120 to have the mechanic at my LBS take all the spokes (on both wheels) down to zero tension, and then retension them properly. Since then, they've been great.
I should mention that I bought these Velo Mine wheels after growing tired of paying for spoke replacements on the rear wheel of two different Mavic wheelsets: Aksium Race (came with my bike) and Ksyrium Equipe (bought aftermarket). Mavic uses proprietary spokes, and they're not free. My LBS didn't want to carry them in stock, so I ended up buying a few bags of Mavic spokes so I had them when one broke. After reading this (which stated openly what I had began to suspect, namely that Mavic wheels are not designed for clydes), I decided enough money had been wasted trying to keep these Mavic wheels of mine in service, and I got something more suitable (the Velo Mine wheelset).

Hopefully they'll be fine! I'll be honest Zippy's post is the first time I've heard anything negative about them, other than them obviously being machine built. They seem to mostly have happy customers on here, and you can't beat the price.

Proprietary means the spokes are for Mavic wheels only, and are only available from Mavic; aftermarket means eBay, and so far as I'm aware, there have been no cases of counterfeit Mavic Ksyrium Equipe wheels.

Folks...Before you spend time responding to this thread you need to take a look at this trolling by the OP:

Maybe you and your ironworker buddies can come over and power my balls for me. So far each and every one of your threads has been a pointless exercise in trollery. It's good to see you keeping up your end with this new one.

Oh great, another oversize picture you found on the internet.
You should post another blurry picture of your bike to go with it.

Thanks for the tip, i hadn't heard of either.
I always thought MAVIC was pretty good ive had a set of 26 inch for a few years no problems.
Which wheel set would you recommend in the $400 to $600 range ?
Velocity Wheels - Hand Made in USA
DT Swiss - Overview

I'll second the velocity's. I have Chukker's they have been much abused but still perfectly round and true. But then it was built by a master, Frank of Frank's cyclery.

#260 here. Had a set of CXP 33/Ultegra hubs built about 6 years ago by Colorado Cyclist. 32 on front, 36 on back. Pretty much bullet proof. When I bought my new Roubaix and added Ultegra 11 speed group, had my old wheel restrung with an 11 speed ultegra hub on back. Still good as the day I got them in the mail. Maybe trued once or twice but really never wobbled.
While awaiting my restring with the 6800 hub, I bought a set of Velocity Deep Vs/Ultegra 32/32 from Velomine. Would say a lot of great things about Velomine, such as, they actually answer the phone and take time to talk with you and the price is unbeatable. But as above, these wheels pinged and creaked like crazy. Had them re-tensioned at my LBS and they have been flawless since then. My LBS, being the best one in Dallas (Plano Cycling), actually did this free of charge as I had just purchased a new bike from them.
Both wheelsets seem rock solid to me and my fat butt. But I roll with the CXPs. The Deep Vs are definitely dogs compared to the CXPs, much slower spin up and just not as snappy. They are heavier but not by much. My 02....
