See what happened there. I took all the derailing and side comments and replied based on those instead of the context of the thread. It happens everywhere. I'm new, where's my welcome!!!

kidding.... kind of.
Welcome! I'm not all that crazy about cake, or pie. Unless it's pizza.

I throw a mean pie.... there's a reason I went from 182lbs in 2003 to 270lbs at the beginning of 2004 and haven't been very successful in shedding it until leaving the restaurant industry.

Kansas City has some rides that start or end at Spin Pizza....

Hi, I just had a chance to see this thread. OK, tree view would be barely possible, but would massively degrade the performance of our servers. BF is way up on the high end of the population density of users for vBulletin Software, and vB is actually one of the better able to be scalable software platforms. We'd love to be able to do it, but technological constraints prevent it. We can't really use a bigger constellation of servers, either, because it still has to run through load balance servers, and we already stress the load balance servers we run and more servers just mean more complexity. Essentially, we're currently at the point of diminishing returns as far as increasing server farm performance until we get some new hardware capabilities developed and proven sufficiently for commercial release.

I like it the way it is actually. My comment was about what seemed to be responses to OP's observation. I was stating my opinion that the OP preference and desire that it was different was not a problem to me and was put off by the seemingly snarky replies initially. Especially considering recent thread issues.

Amen, brother! I started cooking as a pre-teen. The first thing I EVER made from scratch was a carrot cake with real cream cheese icing. My mom bought all the ingredients. I did 100% of the work. Shreded the carrots myself and everything.

Oooh! Time for lunch!

Drifting off the chocolate cake topic...

Part of the reason is a good thing, IMHO. Most participants here tend to post once, hopefuly well thought out posts, and then go away for a while. "Conversations" happen when a few people perch on the forum (or usenet, in the olden days), and refresh like they were bidding on fleabay. As soon as somebody posts something, they'll furiously type (or is it cut and paste?) a restatement of their previous position.

As you might suspect, I post somewhat infrequently and like it that way.

The give and take around here is kinda like the weather. Some threads get hot and have a lot of interaction. Some not so much. I like to try and figure out where people are coming from in their comments. 10 wheels is usually very helpful and I have benefited from some of his cycling wisdom. I don't know where he is coming from on SAY HI diversion. But this might be fodder for a new thread.

People need to be polite. My own kids "Honk Me Off" with their impolite mannerisms. I taught them better than that.

Tony: Good point. I think, though, I might offer another reason... it takes time to sit and read the resonses before posting what yoour take is on the OP. For me, if I have a lot of time, which sometimes does happen, I love reading the posts. If I have a 10-20 minute break between courses or work, I might scan or just reply.

I guess I do the same - I don't usually have the time to read all of every thread. The thing is, if a thread gets to be a few pages long, the chances are the OP's questions or concerns have already been answered or otherwise dispensed with many times. And maybe other interesting topics have opened up. The threaded view lets you get a snapshot of all the activity on the thread, and you can pick what part (if any) to jump in on.

But Tom's response was pretty compelling, even if the idea of changing weren't so objectionable to most people here - the servers don't have the capacity to handle threaded view.

When I reply to a specific post, even the Opening Post, to keep it coherent I quote that post, or at least a relevant passage from it as an introduction to my reply. Also, if I consider my reply especially germane to the subscriber to whom I'm replying, I will send that person a PM, notifying them of my response. About a half of the time, they will further reply to the thread.
