Personally, I interpreted "on" combined with "lane" to mean trail/MUP. I would bet others did as well. Look at the grammar of the OP. Doesn't seem that English is the OP's' first language, assuming the post in the up and up to begin with.

I see a lot of "ride on the right like you were a car" here. I gather bike lanes in other places are kept up and free of debris in ways that often don't happen here in Portland. If you follow Oregon law and ride as far right "as practicable", that often means riding the left portion of the lane to avoid the sticks, gravel and glass. Riders approaching from behind have the same obligations as passing cars, to pass safely when it can be done safely.

OP, don't ride any further to the right than you feel is prudent. (Like I said on the first page, you will annoy some people. That is their business, not yours.)

As an old man that rides slower than most people, who cares they can just go around you.

So far I have yet to have another cyclist annoy me. The only thing that really upset me was last weekend, a college girl was walking right down the middle of the MUT over a bridge at a snails pace with headphones on so loud that three of us screaming to get her attention never did. When she finally moved over far enough that we could get by, and at this point we were going about 5mph, she was surprised by us and cussed us out for not announcing our pass lol.

Incredible. :O

Thanks for input everyone. I forgot to mention, this is southern California.

Sorry for the confusion, I did mean dedicated bike lane

It wouldn't annoy me but don't be surprised when people pass you. I ride ~20 mph on the slower end. Just don't hog the lane so others can pass safely.

Or except if you're in a paceline. Then for some reason, when you don't want to be in the front anymore, you're supposed to move to the left, so everyone can pass you on the right.

You pull off into the wind, so everyone can pass you on the lee side, not that it's particularly relevant to this thread.

Yeah.. not relevant, unless the OP has ended up with his own trail of riders behind him and one or some of them are confused.
Anyway.. on a light wind day, how do you tell which way the wind is blowing if you're riding at a speed faster than wind speed in the first place? way OT, but I'm curious.

This is very true, these days somebody is going to be offended by most anything.

On subject, the trail is there for all to use the way they want to . Just stay on your side and let others do their thing too.

Flags, grass, trees, knowledge of the local prevailing wind. But if it's that calm it really doesn't make that much of a difference which way the group rotates.

You'll probably end up passing me. I just did a couple of 45km rides this past week. It was all through MUPs and bike lanes. Overall average was 14.2km/hr, max 25km/hr(down a couple of hills).

I can't imagine anyone who can keep up 20mph through where I went except if they were to be in vehicular traffic - just to annoy motorists who want to go at 30mph.

If it is a side of the road bike lane, then go any speed you wish EXCEPT riding against traffic, that is most annoying. Heck, if there is no sidewalk, then I don't mind a pedestrian or two (either direction).

Likewise on a MUP, don't worry about speed. Dogs, pedestrians, baby strollers aren't required to keep their speeds above 10 MPH . Try to keep to the right, but still, riders can get around you if they need.

Haha! I'll never forget one time I came across a woman, pushing a double stroller, with 2 hyper mini-dachshunds on extendo-leashes, talking on the phone and trying to manage a cup of coffee. A perfect storm of bicycle impedance.

Going only 10-12 mph I don't know if you could really consider yourself a cyclist according to many on these forums because in order to be a real cyclist you must go as fast and as far as possible otherwise they look down their noses at you. Your merely saying that you ride slow will annoy them. So in that case I'd say, go right ahead.

Descending a nice quiet street at about 30mph )like half a dozen houses in a half-mile stretch, mostly just orange groves,) I see a couple walking side-by-side from a cross street about a quarter of a mile away. As I draw closer-- they are moving very slowly-- there's that trusty extendo-leash, with an ancient German Shepherd at the other end of it, at the maximum extension of the lead, a solid 20 feet behind the couple. So they have effectively blocked an entire 2-lane road. The dog didn't speed up, the people didn't speed up, I got to slow down.

I remain at best indifferent about dogs and humans, but the retractable leash should be banned like leaded gas and asbestos.

True, though regardless you can ride at any darn speed you want. But at least for the "paint on road" variety of bike lane, the passer is normally going to go into the "car" lane to pass, most bike lanes I have seen don't really allow for passing within the lane (understood that 2-way or protected lanes work more like MUPs or trails). As mentioned, your certainly aren't expected to ride in the door zone of a bike lane, just to give a passer room. All bike positioning laws I have seen allow you to leave a bike lane to pass.

By the same token, you might well come upon the jogger in the bike lane, and even though he/she isn't supposed to be there, just extend courtesy and pass him.

What annoys me is someone sneaking up and passing me real close to the point I get startled without hearing "on your left" or "passing".

That was their intention: passive/aggressive intimidation.
