I understand this is quite a common problem on bikepaths, but yesterday was the first time I've ever had anything like this happen on the road. Yesterday in the Brisbane River Ride, some guy had a go at me because he didn't think I was descending fast enough for his liking. Evidently he though I was "holding him up" (even though he had basically the entire road to pass if he so desired).

Interestingly enough, when I destroyed him on the next climb I had plenty of room to pass (not to mention plenty of words to say about a climb that was "too easy, mate!") Does this sort of thing happen often?

Saw one in Dublin a couple of months back. Wife and I were in Ireland for 2 weeks. We dropped the car rental off and then waited for a taxi to take us to the hotel. Taxi spots my hand, pulls in sharply and just touches an older guy riding past. He falls off, taxi driver gets out - and then it's WW3!

Taxi driver apologises, rider climbs into him "You fookin' basstard, look what you done to me fookin' bike, Jaysus, I should punch you fookin' face in you fookin' stoopid fookin' git!" and so it went on. Rider picks up his bike, smashes it into the taxi door, and then drags it down the length of car scratching it badly. "Take that you fookin' basstard.". Taxi driver yells he's going to call the police. By now a crowd are gathering. Rider yells, "What you fookin' lot looking at?" A few in the crowd, tell him to "Fook orf! Don't you use that fookin' language in front of the kids".

Wife and I take our cases, and dissolve into the group and move down road about 50m and hail another cab. Last thing we wanted was to get implicated in a 'fookin' murder. Honest, this is a true story. It needs the Oirish accent to make it funnier.

I think you have to draw a line between being angry with a motorist and "cyclo-rage". You say that the taxi touched the cyclist. If an automobile touched me, I would be darn angry and problably scream at him for the same reason (though not throw my bike at the car, its too precious and even if it wasn't, i wouldn't). When a motorist touches a bike, there is a very high chance of distaster ensuing.

Steel toed sneakers like the one's I commute in are absolutely wonderful for rearranging fenders as well as keeping klutzy people from stomping my toes into toothpaste at hockey games. They squeek too fookin much though.

A bit off-topic, I know, but how about XC-skiing rage?

It was in the news here a couple of years ago. A young, enthusiastic female skier had trouble overtaking older, slower male skier in an uphill. She was skating, he was using the more traditional parallel style and there was not too much room for overtaking on the track. Some words were exchanged, when the woman and her friend finally made the pass.

The man continued for about a km or so down the track where he was to his profound astonishment ambushed by the young woman. She had been hiding behind the trees and bushes and attacked when the man came close enough. After some wrestling he was able to restrain her but she managed to bit him in the leg during the struggle.

Apparently something had been said earlier that provoked her to the point of physically attacking the guy. It took some consideration, too, as she had to wait for a while. Luckily, no permanent damage was done and I believe everyone involved was very happy afterwards that she had not been carrying any kind of weapon worse than her teeth.

Except of course her tongue! If she was that inflamed I can imagine the seething malevolence and vituperative language that were expelled at great pace from that hole beneath her nose!
